Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
INFLAMMATION of the LIVER in humans caused by HEPATITIS DELTA VIRUS, a defective RNA virus that can only infect HEPATITIS B patients. For its viral coating, hepatitis delta virus requires the HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGENS produced by these patients. Hepatitis D can occur either concomitantly with (coinfection) or subsequent to (superinfection) hepatitis B infection. Similar to hepatitis B, it is primarily transmitted by parenteral exposure, such as transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products, but can also be transmitted via sexual or intimate personal contact.
Hepatitis D, Chronic
INFLAMMATION of the LIVER in humans caused by HEPATITIS DELTA VIRUS in conjunction with HEPATITIS B VIRUS and lasting six months or more.
Hepatitis Delta Virus
A defective virus, containing particles of RNA nucleoprotein in virion-like form, present in patients with acute hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis. It requires the presence of a hepadnavirus for full replication. This is the lone species in the genus Deltavirus.
Hepatitis Delta Antigens
Antigens produced by various strains of HEPATITIS D VIRUS.
Hepatitis, Viral, Human
INFLAMMATION of the LIVER in humans due to infection by VIRUSES. There are several significant types of human viral hepatitis with infection caused by enteric-transmission (HEPATITIS A; HEPATITIS E) or blood transfusion (HEPATITIS B; HEPATITIS C; and HEPATITIS D).
Summary. Chronic delta hepatitis (CDH) represents a severe form of chronic viral hepatitis, induced by the hepatitis delta virus (HDV) in conjunction with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Delta hepatitis...
AIM: To determine the efficacy of peginterferon-alpha therapy for 24 months in chronic delta hepatitis METHOD: Patients with chronic delta hepatitis (CDH) who were treated by peginterferon alpha-2a or...
The sero-prevalence of co-infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the hepatitis D virus (HDV) is well known in many European countries, starting from 6.8% in Germany to more than 27% in some Tu...
Infection with hepatitis viruses can lead to acute hepatitis with the risk of developing liver failure. Chronic viral hepatitis may evolve into liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Thus, prev...
Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a small, defective RNA virus that can infect only individuals carrying hepatitis B virus. HBV/HDV co-infection results in more severe liver disease than HBV single infec...
To elucidate the role of hepatitis delta virus (HDV) in the development of chronic liver disease in patients with hemophilia.
To determine the prevalence of hepatitis delta virus (HDV) in a large cohort of hemophiliacs and to elucidate the role of HDV in the development and progression of liver disease in this po...
The purpose of this research study is to find out the effect of the investigational drug NOV-205 on the level of hepatitis C virus in the blood and whether NOV-205 is well-tolerated at dif...
Comparison of the function and mobility of the shoulder with the placement of the Delta prosthesis (anteversion and retroversion of the glenoidal and humeral components)
The treatment of choice for chronic hepatitis D is uncertain. The investigators hypothesize that pegylated interferon (IFN) alfa-2b in combination with ribavirin (RBV) may be effective in...
