Summary of "Expressions of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin in Gastric Cancer: A Potential Biomarker for Prognosis and an Ancillary Diagnostic Test."

The aim of this study was to explore the clinical significance of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in the development and prognosis of gastric cancer. NGAL tumor levels were determined in 333 GC patients by immunohistochemistry. NGAL in blood samples from 63 healthy donors and 60 gastric cancer patients were also determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Rate of NGAL expression was correlated with the size of tumor (69.3% in >4 cm tumors vs. 46.1% in

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Lipocalin 1

A lipocalin that was orignally characterized from human TEARS. It is expressed primarily in the LACRIMAL GLAND and the VON EBNER GLANDS. Lipocalin 1 may play a role in olfactory transduction by concentrating and delivering odorants to the ODORANT RECEPTORS.

Gastric Stump

That portion of the stomach remaining after gastric surgery, usually gastrectomy or gastroenterostomy for cancer of the stomach or peptic ulcer. It is a common site of cancer referred to as stump cancer or carcinoma of the gastric stump.

Wnt2 Protein

A proto-oncogene protein and member of the Wnt family of proteins. It is frequently up-regulated in human GASTRIC CANCER and is a tumor marker (TUMOR MARKERS, BIOLOGICAL) of gastric and COLORECTAL CANCER.

Neutrophil Activation

The process in which the neutrophil is stimulated by diverse substances, resulting in degranulation and/or generation of reactive oxygen products, and culminating in the destruction of invading pathogens. The stimulatory substances, including opsonized particles, immune complexes, and chemotactic factors, bind to specific cell-surface receptors on the neutrophil.

Gastric Dilatation

Abnormal distention of the STOMACH due to accumulation of gastric contents that may reach 10 to 15 liters. Gastric dilatation may be the result of GASTRIC OUTLET OBSTRUCTION; ILEUS; GASTROPARESIS; or denervation.

Prognostic Utility of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin in Predicting Mortality and Cardiovascular Events in Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Treated With Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic role of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in a large population of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) as a New Biomarker for Non - Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Diseases.

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, or NGAL, an acute phase protein, is part of the lipocalin family. NGAL is highly induced in inflammatory conditions and ischemia, and is a critical componen...

Renal dysfunction is a stronger determinant of systemic neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels than myocardial dysfunction in systolic heart failure.

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is released by renal tubular cells in response to inflammation and injury. Recent studies have demonstrated that NGAL is up-regulated in cardiomyocyte...

Prognostic value of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin in acute heart failure.

The identification of patients at risk for worse outcome is still a challenge. We hypothesized that cystatin C, a marker of renal function, and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), a mar...

The neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, or LCN 2, marker of aggressiveness in clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

To determine the prognostic significance of the neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and the matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC).
