Summary of "Pubococcygeal activity on perineal ultrasound in incontinent women."

INTRODUCTION AND
HYPOTHESIS:
The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability and reproducibility of perineal ultrasound (US) in the evaluation of the pubococcygeal muscle (PCM) activity in urinary incontinent women.
METHODS:
Thirty women were assessed twice by two examiners who measured the angle between the lateral bundles of the PCM. The 2D US on coronal view evaluated the PCM performance during squeezing, straining, and resting.
RESULTS:
There was significant correlation (p CONCLUSIONS:
The 2D perineal US on coronal view is useful to evaluate PCM activity. It is easily applicable and reproducible.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Ultrasonography, Interventional

The use of ultrasound to guide minimally invasive surgical procedures such as needle ASPIRATION BIOPSY; DRAINAGE; etc. Its widest application is intravascular ultrasound imaging but it is useful also in urology and intra-abdominal conditions.

Ultrasound, High-intensity Focused, Transrectal

Tissue ablation of the PROSTATE performed by ultrasound from a transducer placed in the RECTUM. The procedure is used to treat prostate cancer (PROSTATIC NEOPLASMS) and benign prostatic hypertrophy (PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA).

Women, Working

Women who are engaged in gainful activities usually outside the home.

Physicians, Women

Women licensed to practice medicine.

Women's Health

The concept covering the physical and mental conditions of women.
