Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Potassium Channel Blockers
A class of drugs that act by inhibition of potassium efflux through cell membranes. Blockade of potassium channels prolongs the duration of ACTION POTENTIALS. They are used as ANTI-ARRHYTHMIA AGENTS and VASODILATOR AGENTS.
Hypertension, Pregnancy-induced
A condition in pregnant women with elevated systolic (>140 mm Hg) and diastolic (>90 mm Hg) blood pressure on at least two occasions 6 h apart. HYPERTENSION complicates 8-10% of all pregnancies, generally after 20 weeks of gestation. Gestational hypertension can be divided into several broad categories according to the complexity and associated symptoms, such as EDEMA; PROTEINURIA; SEIZURES; abnormalities in BLOOD COAGULATION and liver functions.
Delayed Rectifier Potassium Channels
A group of slow opening and closing voltage-gated potassium channels. Because of their delayed activation kinetics they play an important role in controlling ACTION POTENTIAL duration.
Term Birth
CHILDBIRTH at the end of a normal duration of PREGNANCY, between 37 to 40 weeks of gestation or about 280 days from the first day of the mother's last menstrual period.
Hydrochlorothiazide
A thiazide diuretic often considered the prototypical member of this class. It reduces the reabsorption of electrolytes from the renal tubules. This results in increased excretion of water and electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, chloride, and magnesium. It is used in the treatment of several disorders including edema, hypertension, diabetes insipidus, and hypoparathyroidism.
Clinical Trials
Losartan and HCTZ and Amlodipine vs Atenolol and Amlodipine
A study to evaluate the effects of combination losartan versus combination atenolol in patients with ambulatory systolic hypertension.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the magnitude and durations of the antihypertensive effects of losartan using ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and to evaluate the saf...
A Study to Investigate the Antihypertensive Efficacy of MK0954
After a 4 week placebo period, patients were randomized to Placebo or Losartan 50 mg arms, after 6 weeks non-responders were up titrated to 100 mg losartan for the remaining 6 weeks. This...
Hydrochlorothiazide (+) Losartan Potassium vs. Amlodipine Comparative Study
An efficacy and safety study of hydrochlorothiazide (+) losartan potassium compared to amlodipine at week 12 in Korean patients with essential hypertension
A Study to Investigate the Efficacy and Safety of Different Doses of Losartan Potassium (MK0954)
The purpose of this study was to compare the antihypertensive efficacy of different doses of losartan compared to placebo and enalapril, in patients with supine diastolic blood pressure of...
