Anorectal Microbicide Project(AMP): Rectal Health, Behaviors and Microbicide Acceptability
Summary
Observational, cross-sectional, single-visit study of 896 men and women in Los Angeles, CA and Baltimore, MD including a computer-assisted interview focusing on the behavioral repertoire surrounding RAI, symptoms, and health seeking behaviors and a multidimensional assessment of behaviors, anorectal examination, and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Salt Gland
A compound tubular gland, located around the eyes and nasal passages in marine animals and birds, the physiology of which figures in water-electrolyte balance. A rectal gland or rectal salt gland in the dogfish shark is attached at the junction of the intestine and cloaca and aids the kidneys in removing excess salts from the blood. Rectal Prolapse
Protrusion of the rectal mucous membrane through the anus. There are various degrees: incomplete with no displacement of the anal sphincter muscle; complete with displacement of the anal sphincter muscle; complete with no displacement of the anal sphincter muscle but with herniation of the bowel; and internal complete with rectosigmoid or upper rectum intussusception into the lower rectum.
Digital Rectal Examination
A physical examination in which the qualified health care worker inserts a lubricated, gloved finger of one hand into the RECTUM and may use the other hand to press on the lower ABDOMEN or pelvic area to palpate for abnormalities in the lower rectum, and nearby organs or tissues. The method is commonly used to check the lower rectum, the PROSTATE gland in men, and the UTERUS and OVARIES in women.
