Efficacy of Seroquel SR in Combination With an Antidepressant in Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder
To evaluate the efficacy of quetiapine fumarate sustained release (Seroquel SRâ„¢) in combination with an antidepressant versus an antidepressant alone in patients with Major Depressive Disorder.
PLEASE NOTE: Seroquel SR and Seroquel XR refer to the same formulation. The SR designation was changed to XR after consultation with FDA.
Allocation: Randomized, Control: Placebo Control, Endpoint Classification: Efficacy Study, Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment, Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Caregiver, Investigator, Outcomes Assessor), Primary Purpose: Treatment
Major Depressive Disorder

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Tricyclic antidepressant with anticholinergic and sedative properties. It appears to prevent the re-uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at nerve terminals, thus potentiating the action of these neurotransmitters. Amitriptyline also appears to antagonize cholinergic and alpha-1 adrenergic responses to bioactive amines.
A serotonin uptake inhibitor that is effective in the treatment of depression.
The first highly specific serotonin uptake inhibitor. It is used as an antidepressant and often has a more acceptable side-effects profile than traditional antidepressants.
A unicyclic, aminoketone antidepressant. The mechanism of its therapeutic actions is not well understood, but it does appear to block dopamine uptake. The hydrochloride is available as an aid to smoking cessation treatment.
A tricyclic antidepressant with actions similar to AMITRIPTYLINE.
Escitalopram (Lexapro) and citalopram (Celexa) are similar selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that alter blood flow to the amygdala and other brain structures involved in regulating m...
The purpose of this study is to compare duloxetine with other antidepressants in the treatment of severe depression.
Activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system is monitored using saliva cortisol sampling during the antidepressant treatment with amitriptyline and paroxetine in moderately to s...
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of pregabalin, duloxetine and amitriptyline compared with placebo in reducing pain in diabetic patients as assessed by Brief Pain I...
The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of three types of treatments for depressed teenagers who have attempted suicide.
Escitalopram (escitalopram oxalate; Cipralex(R), Lexapro(R)), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), demonstrates a highly sele...
The effects of acute systemic administration of duloxetine, amitriptyline, mirtazapine and fluoxetine were compared in experimental models of gastric ulcer in rats. Compared with the vehicle control g...
We have previously observed that, while the impairing effects of amitriptyline on inhibitory avoidance in mice are consistently observed, those of acute fluoxetine are negligible. Two experiments were...
Effects of S-citalopram, citalopram and R-citalopram on the firing patterns of dopamine neurons in the ventral tegmental area, NMDA receptor-mediated transmission in the medial prefrontal cortex and cognitive function in the rat.
Escitalopram, the S-enantiomer of citalopram, possesses superior efficacy compared to other SSRIs in the treatment of major depression., Escitalopram binds to an allosteric site on the serotonin trans...
Altered function of kynurenine pathway has emerged recently as one of the factors contributing to the pathogenesis of depression. Neuroprotective kynurenic acid (KYNA) and neurotoxic 3-hydroxykynureni...
