A Long Term Study of Lanthanum Carbonate in Patients Requiring Dialysis Who Have Ived Lanthanum Carbonate in Previous Studies Defined by the Protocol.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety of lanthanum carbonate in patients undergoing dialysis who have received lanthanum carbonate in the previous studies and wish to continue treatment.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
A severe irreversible decline in the ability of kidneys to remove wastes, concentrate URINE, and maintain ELECTROLYTE BALANCE; BLOOD PRESSURE; and CALCIUM metabolism. Renal failure, either acute (KIDNEY FAILURE, ACUTE) or chronic (KIDNEY FAILURE, CHRONIC), requires HEMODIALYSIS.
Kidney Failure, Chronic
The end-stage of CHRONIC RENAL INSUFFICIENCY. It is characterized by the severe irreversible kidney damage (as measured by the level of PROTEINURIA) and the reduction in GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE to less than 15 ml per min (Kidney Foundation: Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative, 2002). These patients generally require HEMODIALYSIS or KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION.
Renal Insufficiency, Chronic
Conditions in which the KIDNEYS perform below the normal level for more than three months. Chronic kidney insufficiency is classified by five stages according to the decline in GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE and the degree of kidney damage (as measured by the level of PROTEINURIA). The most severe form is the end-stage renal disease (CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE). (Kidney Foundation: Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative, 2002)
Lanthanum. The prototypical element in the rare earth family of metals. It has the atomic symbol La, atomic number 57, and atomic weight 138.91. Lanthanide ion is used in experimental biology as a calcium antagonist; lanthanum oxide improves the optical properties of glass.
Kidney Papillary Necrosis
A complication of kidney diseases characterized by cell death involving KIDNEY PAPILLA in the KIDNEY MEDULLA. Damages to this area may hinder the kidney to concentrate urine resulting in POLYURIA. Sloughed off necrotic tissue may block KIDNEY PELVIS or URETER. Necrosis of multiple renal papillae can lead to KIDNEY FAILURE.
The purpose of this study is to assess phosphate reduction and control in patients with End Stage Renal Disease treated with lanthanum carbonate
The purpose of this study is to assess phosphate reduction and control in patients with End Stage Renal Disease treated with either lanthanum carbonate or sevelamer hydrochloride
This study is being conducted to assess any potential differences in the absorption and excretion between two lanthanum carbonate formulations. This study is also being done to assess the...
The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of lanthanum carbonate 750 to 2,250 mg in Japanese Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3, 4 and 5 subjects not on dialysis.
The purpose of this study is to compare the absorption of dietary phosphorus following a single dose with lanthanum carbonate (1000mg) and a single dose of sevelamer carbonate (2400mg).
Background: Recent publications show that elevation of FGF23 is independently associated with progression or renal disease, left ventricular hypertrophy and cardiovascular mortality. Dietary restricti...
Background/Aims: Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scanning is used to assess bone mineral content and diagnose osteoporosis. We had noted anecdotal cases of patients attending for DEXA scanning...
Lanthanum carbonate (LC) is used to treat hyperphosphatemia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the signal intensity (SI) of LC on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of phantoms.
Lanthanum therapy is an efficient therapy of hyperphosphoremia by chelating phosphore in the digestive tract. Lanthanum is a silvery white metallic element that belongs to group 3 of the periodic tabl...
A practical transesterification of less reactive dimethyl carbonate and much less reactive methyl carbamates with primary (1°), secondary (2°), and tertiary (3°) alcohols was established with the u...
