Moxifloxacin in Pediatric Subjects With Complicated Intra-abdominal Infection
Summary
The primary focus of the study is the evaluation of the safety of treatment with moxifloxacin in a pediatric population 3 months to <18 years old. Approximately 450 pediatric subjects with a complicated intra-abdominal infection will be enrolled in the study and treated with either moxifloxacin intravenously and orally if switched to oral therapy or ertapenem (intravenously) and, if switched to oral therapy, amoxicillin/clavulanate.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Amoxicillin-potassium Clavulanate Combination
A fixed-ratio combination of amoxicillin trihydrate (see AMOXICILLIN), an aminopenicillin, and potassium clavulanate (see CLAVULANIC ACID), a beta-lactamase inhibitor, used to treat a broad-spectrum of bacterial infections, especially resistant strains.
Amoxicillin
A broad-spectrum semisynthetic antibiotic similar to AMPICILLIN except that its resistance to gastric acid permits higher serum levels with oral administration.
Neuroblastoma
A common neoplasm of early childhood arising from neural crest cells in the sympathetic nervous system, and characterized by diverse clinical behavior, ranging from spontaneous remission to rapid metastatic progression and death. This tumor is the most common intraabdominal malignancy of childhood, but it may also arise from thorax, neck, or rarely occur in the central nervous system. Histologic features include uniform round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei arranged in nests and separated by fibrovascular septa. Neuroblastomas may be associated with the opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome. (From DeVita et al., Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology, 5th ed, pp2099-2101; Curr Opin Oncol 1998 Jan;10(1):43-51)

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Avelox in a 5 day treatment of adult patients with acute bacterial sinusitis and to measure the amount of time it ta...
A study to assess the safety and efficacy of moxifloxacin compared to that of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid for the treatment of subjects with acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
The purpose of this study is to assess if a therapy with oral and intravenous moxifloxacin is as effective as a therapy with intravenous ceftriaxone + intravenous azithromycin followed by...
