Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Renal Insufficiency, Chronic
Conditions in which the KIDNEYS perform below the normal level for more than three months. Chronic kidney insufficiency is classified by five stages according to the decline in GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE and the degree of kidney damage (as measured by the level of PROTEINURIA). The most severe form is the end-stage renal disease (CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE). (Kidney Foundation: Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative, 2002)
Kidney Failure, Chronic
The end-stage of CHRONIC RENAL INSUFFICIENCY. It is characterized by the severe irreversible kidney damage (as measured by the level of PROTEINURIA) and the reduction in GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE to less than 15 ml per min (Kidney Foundation: Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative, 2002). These patients generally require HEMODIALYSIS or KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION.
An envelope of loose gel surrounding a bacterial cell which is associated with the virulence of pathogenic bacteria. Some capsules have a well-defined border, whereas others form a slime layer that trails off into the medium. Most capsules consist of relatively simple polysaccharides but there are some bacteria whose capsules are made of polypeptides.
Abnormal enlargement or swelling of a KIDNEY due to dilation of the KIDNEY CALICES and the KIDNEY PELVIS. It is often associated with obstruction of the URETER or chronic kidney diseases that prevents normal drainage of urine into the URINARY BLADDER.
A severe irreversible decline in the ability of kidneys to remove wastes, concentrate URINE, and maintain ELECTROLYTE BALANCE; BLOOD PRESSURE; and CALCIUM metabolism. Renal failure, either acute (KIDNEY FAILURE, ACUTE) or chronic (KIDNEY FAILURE, CHRONIC), requires HEMODIALYSIS.
The purpose of this study is to see if a medicine called Sulodexide will help prevent or slow down the progression of Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis type II/Dense Deposit Disease...
The purpose of this study is to determine whether sulodexide is effective in slowing or preventing the progression of diabetic kidney disease.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether treatment with sulodexide is effective in reducing the level of urine albumin excretion in patients with early diabetic kidney disease expr...
To investigate the effects of paricalcitol capsules on changes on cardiac structure and function in subjects with Stage 3/4 Chronic Kidney Disease who have left ventricular hypertrophy
Hectorol is a safe and effective treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in hemodialysis patients. Hectorol (doxercalciferol capsules) is indicated for the treatment of secondary hyper...
Background: Rivastigmine patches provide similar efficacy to rivastigmine capsules with a lower incidence of gastrointestinal side effects in patients with probable Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods:...
BACKGROUND: The safety and tolerability of regadenoson, a pharmacologic stress agent that is excreted primarily by the kidneys, were examined in subjects with chronic kidney dise...
Background: Senescent endothelial cells acquire functional properties that make the vascular wall more prone to atherosclerotic changes. We tested whether senescence of the endothelial cells maintaine...
Much attention recently has been focused on stem cell technology as a possible alternative modality of treatment of a variety of diseases. Chronic kidney disease is a serious health problem and most c...
Attenuation of the side effect profile of regadenoson: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study with aminophylline in patients undergoing myocardial perfusion imaging and have severe chronic kidney disease-the ASSUAGE-CKD trial.
A subgroup analysis of the ASSUAGE trial suggested that the standardized intravenous aminophylline administration following regadenoson-stress leads to substantial attenuation of regadenoson adverse-e...
