Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Mumps Vaccine

A live attenuated virus vaccine of chick embryo origin, used for routine immunization of children and for immunization of adolescents and adults who have not had mumps or been immunized with live mumps vaccine. Children are usually immunized with measles-mumps-rubella combination vaccine.

Measles Vaccine

A live attenuated virus vaccine of chick embryo origin, used for routine immunization of children and for immunization of adolescents and adults who have not had measles or been immunized with live measles vaccine and have no serum antibodies against measles. Children are usually immunized with measles-mumps-rubella combination vaccine. (From Dorland, 28th ed)

Chickenpox Vaccine

A live, attenuated varicella virus vaccine used for immunization against chickenpox. It is recommended for children between the ages of 12 months and 13 years.

Poliovirus Vaccine, Oral

A live vaccine containing attenuated poliovirus, types I, II, and III, grown in monkey kidney cell tissue culture, used for routine immunization of children against polio. This vaccine induces long-lasting intestinal and humoral immunity. Killed vaccine induces only humoral immunity. Oral poliovirus vaccine should not be administered to immunocompromised individuals or their household contacts. (Dorland, 28th ed)

Influenza Vaccines

Vaccines used to prevent infection by viruses in the family ORTHOMYXOVIRIDAE. It includes both killed or attenuated vaccines. The composition of the vaccines is changed each year in response to antigenic shifts and changes in prevalence of influenza virus strains. The vaccine is usually bivalent or trivalent, containing one or two INFLUENZAVIRUS A strains and one INFLUENZAVIRUS B strain.

Effect of Age and Prior Immunity on Response to H1N1 Vaccines in Children

A total of 51 children between the ages of 4 and 9 will be randomized to receive a two dose schedule of either licensed live attenuated A/California/07/09 influenza vaccine (LAIV) or licen...

A Phase I Safety and Immunogenicity Study of Mix and Match of Licensed Flu Vaccine and Flumist

The purpose of this research is to compare the safety and ability to stimulate antibodies (part of the bodies proteins that fight infections) of two influenza (flu) vaccines given to child...

Safety and Immunogenicity of Live Influenza A Vaccine for Avian Influenza H7N7

Every year the human population suffers from seasonal outbreaks of influenza resulting in both illness and death. However, the rates of illness and death from seasonal outbreaks are signif...

Determining Safety and Efficacy of Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine When Given With Measles Vaccine

This study will determine whether it is safe and effective to administer Japanese encephalitis (JE) live attenuated SA 14-14-2 vaccine at the same time as measles vaccine. If it is found t...

Trial to Assess Safety, Efficacy, Tolerability and Immunogenicity of Influenza Virus Vaccine, Liquid Formulation (CAIV-T), Administered Concomitantly With a Combination Live, Attenuated, Mumps, Measles, and Rubella Vaccine in Healthy Children Aged 11 - 24

- The primary objective of the study was to determine if intranasally administered influenza virus vaccine, CAIV-T), when administered concomitantly with a subcutaneously administered comb...

Live attenuated seasonal and pandemic influenza vaccine in school-age children: A randomized controlled trial.

The novel influenza A(H1N1pdm09) virus emerged in North America in early 2009 and rapidly spread worldwide. In this study we report the efficacy of the live attenuated monovalent H1N1pdm09 vaccine and...

A randomized, double-blind noninferiority study of quadrivalent live attenuated influenza vaccine in adults.

Trivalent seasonal influenza vaccines contain 2 A strains and 1 B strain. B strains of 2 antigenically distinct lineages, Yamagata and Victoria, have been co-circulating annually, and the B strain inc...

The efficacy of intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine in children 2 through 17 years of age: A meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled studies.

Nine randomized controlled clinical trials, including approximately 26,000 children aged 6 months to 17 years, have evaluated the efficacy of live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) against culture-c...

Effectiveness of the 2010-11 seasonal trivalent influenza vaccine in Spain: cycEVA study.

BACKGROUND: In Spain, the influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) was estimated in the last three seasons using an observational study (cycEVA) conducted in the frame of the Spanish Influenza Sentinel Su...

Intranasal immunization with live attenuated influenza vaccine plus chitosan as an adjuvant protects mice against homologous and heterologous virus challenge.

Our previous studies have proven the adjuvanticity of chitosan in mice when administered with inactivated and subunit influenza vaccine. In this study, we investigated the adjuvant effect of chitosan...
