Gastrointestinal Toleration of Inulin Products

13:38 EDT 21st May 2013 | BioPortfolio

Summary

The intake of inulin products has been linked to multiple health benefits which has lead to inulin fortification in food products.

The investigators hypothesis that doses of up to 10 grams of inulin products should be well tolerated and not result in a significant increase in gastrointestinal symptoms.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Cotton Fiber

A TEXTILE fiber obtained from the pappus (outside the SEEDS) of cotton plant (GOSSYPIUM). Inhalation of cotton fiber dust over a prolonged period can result in BYSSINOSIS.

Angioplasty, Balloon, Laser-assisted

Techniques using laser energy in combination with a balloon catheter to perform angioplasty. These procedures can take several forms including: 1, laser fiber delivering the energy while the inflated balloon centers the fiber and occludes the blood flow; 2, balloon angioplasty immediately following laser angioplasty; or 3, laser energy transmitted through angioplasty balloons that contain an internal fiber.

Scorzonera

A plant genus of the family ASTERACEAE. INULIN and SESQUITERPENES have been found in it.

Inula

A plant genus of the family ASTERACEAE. Members contain INULIN, alantol, helenin, alantic acid, and acrid resin.

Echinacea

A genus of perennial herbs used topically and internally. It contains echinacoside, GLYCOSIDES; INULIN; isobutyl amides, resin, and SESQUITERPENES.

Clinical Trials [ 181 Associated Clinical Trials listed on BioPortfolio]

Effects of Fiber on Satiety

The effects of a dietary fiber on hunger and food intake will be tested in men and women. Participants will receive fiber as part of a breakfast meal on two occasions. On another occasion,...

Safety and Effectiveness Study of a Fiber Supplement for Weight Loss

Overweight and obesity are serious and growing problems within the United States. The usual approaches to weight loss-dieting, exercise, and behavioral interventions-rarely result in long...

Assessment of Renal Physiology by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in Normal Volunteers

Estimation of Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is the primary test used to assess patients with renal disease. Although serum creatinine based GFR and nuclear medicine based estimations ar...

Atorvastatin, Oligofructose-Enriched Inulin, or Sulindac in Preventing Cancer in Patients at Increased Risk of Developing Colorectal Neoplasia

RATIONALE: Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs or substances to keep cancer from forming, growing, or coming back. The use of atorvastatin, oligofructose-enriched inulin, or sulind...

Flax Mucilage and Apparent Nutrient Digestibility

The aim is to study the effects of flaxseed mucilage, rich in dietary fiber on apparent fat and energy digestibility in young adults.

The soluble dietary fiber inulin can influence the bioaccessibility of enniatins.

Enniatins (ENs) are bioactive compounds produced by the secondary metabolism of several Fusarium strains and are known to have various biological activities, such as acting as enzyme inhibitors, antif...

Tosylated and azidated inulins as key substrates for further chemical modifications to access inulin-based advanced materials: An inulin-based glycocluster.

We successfully synthesized inulin tosylates by treating commercially available inulin with tosyl chloride and triethylamine in N,N-dimethylacetoamide at the ambient temperature for 24h. The subsequen...

Comparative effects of cellulose and soluble fibers (pectin, konjac glucomannan, inulin) on fecal water toxicity toward Caco-2 cells, fecal bacteria enzymes, bile acid, and short-chain fatty acids.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of cellulose and three soluble dietary fibers, pectin, konjac glucomannan (KGM), and inulin, on the cytotoxicity and DNA damage of fecal water-treated...

Inulin and poly(acrylic acid) grafted inulin for dissolution enhancement and preliminary controlled release of poorly water-soluble Irbesartan drug.

In this article, inulin and poly(acrylic acid) grafted inulin copolymer were used to enhance the dissolution of poorly water-soluble Irbesartan drug and to control its drug release rate, respectively....

Effects of konjac glucomannan on putative risk factors for colon carcinogenesis in rats fed a high-fat diet.

The aim of this study was to determine effects of konjac glucomannan (KGM) in a high fat corn oil diet on risk factors of colon carcinogenesis, that is, fecal β-glucuronidase, mucinase, and bile acid...
