Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Water Movements

The flow of water in enviromental bodies of water such as rivers, oceans, water supplies, aquariums, etc. It includes currents, tides, and waves.

Water Pollutants

Substances or organisms which pollute the water or bodies of water. Use for water pollutants in general or those for which there is no specific heading.

Water Purification

Any of several processes in which undesirable impurities in water are removed or neutralized; for example, chlorination, filtration, primary treatment, ion exchange, and distillation. It includes treatment of waste water to provide potable and hygiene water in a controlled or closed environment as well as provision of public drinking water supplies. (From McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed)

Fresh Water

Water containing no significant amounts of salts, such as water from RIVERS and lakes.

Water Supply

Source, means, or process of supplying water (as for a community) usually including reservoirs, tunnels, and pipelines and often the watershed from which the water is ultimately drawn. (Webster, 3d ed)

Study of the Effects of a Mineralized Water Ingestion Upon Lipidic Absorption Mechanisms

The principal objective of this research is the evaluation of the effect of mineralized water consumption upon evolution of LDL Cholesterol and triglycerides, compared to a low mineralized...

Water Induced Thermogenesis in Obese Children

Drinking water is largely advocated for obesity prevention and management. Recent studies have suggested that water has a thermogenic effect, this has not been examined in children. In thi...

Oral Water Ingestion in Heart Transplant Patients

In this study the investigators propose to assess the hemodynamic response to the ingestion of 16 fl oz of water. The investigators will test the hypothesis that water ingestion will incr...

Effects of Naturally Silicon-Rich Water on Bone Metabolism in Women

The aim of this research study is to determine by laboratory analyses the effects of drinking silicon-rich water on bone health. This will be determined from blood and urine samples from...

A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Water Protocol for Clients With Thin Liquid Dysphagia

The Purpose of the GF Strong water protocol is to allow clients who have thin liquid dysphagia to drink water under certain specified conditions according to the rules of the water protoco...

Microencapsulation using an oil-in-water-in-air 'dry water emulsion'.

We describe the first example of a tri-phasic oil-in-water-in-air 'dry water emulsion'. The method combines highly stable oil-in-water emulsions prepared using branched copolymer surfactants, with aqu...

RADON CONCENTRATIONS IN WATER IN THE REGION OF TOKAT CITY IN TURKEY.

The aim of this study is to measure the radon ((222)Rn) concentrations in drinking water and river water in the region of Tokat city in Turkey. The measurements were performed by analysing the water s...

Incompatibility of croscarmellose sodium with alkaline excipients in a tablet formulation.

Abstract The objective of the current work was to study an observed incompatibility between croscarmellose sodium and basic excipients in a tablet formulation. Significant dissolution slowdown was obs...

Near-Infrared Spectroscopic Study of a Water-in-Supercritical CO(2) Microemulsion as a Function of the Water Content.

A water-in-supercritical CO(2) microemulsion is a reverse micelle encapsulating a nanometer-size water droplet dispersed in supercritical CO(2). In the microemulsion solution, water exists not only in...

Structures of water molecules at solvent/silica interfaces.

The adsorption of water at solvent/silica interfaces was studied using IR-visible sum frequency generation (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy. We discovered a water layer between toluene and silica with n...
