Summary

The purpose of this prospective, randomized study was to compare pain, functional outcome and ranges of motion of the knees in patients receiving either a standard posterior cruciate-retaining or a high-flexion posterior cruciate-retaining total knee prosthesis.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Knee Prosthesis

Replacement for a knee joint.

Osteoarthritis, Knee

Noninflammatory degenerative disease of the knee joint consisting of three large categories: conditions that block normal synchronous movement, conditions that produce abnormal pathways of motion, and conditions that cause stress concentration resulting in changes to articular cartilage. (Crenshaw, Campbell's Operative Orthopaedics, 8th ed, p2019)

Knee Injuries

Injuries to the knee or the knee joint.

Maxillofacial Prosthesis

A prosthetic appliance for the replacement of areas of the maxilla, mandible, and face, missing as a result of deformity, disease, injury, or surgery. When the prosthesis replaces portions of the mandible only, it is referred to as MANDIBULAR PROSTHESIS.

Prosthesis Design

The plan and delineation of prostheses in general or a specific prosthesis.

NexGen Gender Fixed Bearing Knee Versus NexGen Legacy Knee Posterior Stabilized (LPS) - Flex Fixed Bearing Knee: A Study Comparing Two Different Knee Prostheses

The purpose of this trial is to study potential differences between two prostheses, including: "feel of prosthesis" (i.e., how natural does the prosthesis feel), range of motion (ROM), pai...

Comparing Clinical Outcome of 2 Different Total Knee Prostheses: Nexgen LPS-Flex Versus AGC

A randomized blinded study is conducted comparing 2 different knee prostheses. Range of motion (ROM), pain, feel of prosthesis, satisfaction and ability to do daily activities are register...

A Study to Compare the NexGen CR and CR-Flex Knee Implants

The purpose of this study is to test for significant differences in functional outcomes, specifically pre-operative ROM and post-operative ROM obtained by using a NexGen CR versus a NexGen...

Comparison of Rotating vs. Fixed Platform of the COLUMBUS Knee Prosthesis

A population of 100 patients randomised to rotating and fixed PE inlays in the Columbus knee prosthesis received a navigated TKR. Knee Society Score as primary endpoint, Oxford Score, and...

Improved design decreases wear in total knee arthroplasty with varus malalignment.

PURPOSE: Controversy still exists whether coronal malalignment would influence the long-term survival of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The hypothesis was that an improved design of the articular surf...

Three- to six-year follow-up results after high-flexion total knee arthroplasty: can we allow passive deep knee bending?

PURPOSE: We evaluated 3- to 6-year clinical and radiological follow-up results after NexGen((R)) LPS-flex total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS: A retrospective evaluation was undertaken of 218 knees...

Primary total knee arthroplasty using rotating-hinge prosthesis in severely affected knees.

PURPOSE: A rotating-hinge total knee prosthesis may be utilized for the treatment of global instability or severe bone loss around the knee. The outcome of primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using...

In vivo kinematics of high-flex mobile-bearing total knee arthroplasty, with a new post-cam design, in deep knee bending motion.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vivo knee kinematics to assess the available functional motion of the characteristic mobile-bearing prosthesis design and to examine whether...

What is the risk of stress risers for interprosthetic fractures of the femur? A biomechanical analysis.

PURPOSE: Due to increasing life expectancy we see a rising number of joint replacements. Along with the proximal prosthesis in the femur, more and more people have a second implant on the distal ipsil...
