24-hr IOP With Travoprost/Timolol Compared With Latanoprost/Timolol in XFG

15:57 EDT 19th June 2013 | BioPortfolio

Summary

A crossover, randomized, single-masked study which compares the short-term (3 months) 24-hour IOP control and safety of travoprost/timolol fixed combination given once in the evening, versus that of latanoprost/timolol fixed combination given once in the evening in patients with exfoliative glaucoma. The primary objective of this trial is to compare the quality of 24-hour IOP control after 3 months of chronic therapy with these two medications.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Timolol

A beta-adrenergic antagonist similar in action to PROPRANOLOL. The levo-isomer is the more active. Timolol has been proposed as an antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, antiangina, and antiglaucoma agent. It is also used in the treatment of MIGRAINE DISORDERS and tremor.

Ethinyl Estradiol-norgestrel Combination

ETHINYL ESTRADIOL and NORGESTREL given in fixed proportions. It has proved to be an effective contraceptive (CONTRACEPTIVES, ORAL, COMBINED).

Amoxicillin-potassium Clavulanate Combination

A fixed-ratio combination of amoxicillin trihydrate (see AMOXICILLIN), an aminopenicillin, and potassium clavulanate (see CLAVULANIC ACID), a beta-lactamase inhibitor, used to treat a broad-spectrum of bacterial infections, especially resistant strains.

Polypharmacy

The use of multiple drugs administered to the same patient, most commonly seen in elderly patients. It includes also the administration of excessive medication. Since in the United States most drugs are dispensed as single-agent formulations, polypharmacy, though using many drugs administered to the same patient, must be differentiated from DRUG COMBINATIONS, single preparations containing two or more drugs as a fixed dose, and from DRUG THERAPY, COMBINATION, two or more drugs administered separately for a combined effect. (From Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992)

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole Combination

This drug combination has proved to be an effective therapeutic agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. It is effective in the treatment of many infections, including PNEUMOCYSTIS PNEUMONIA in AIDS.
