Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Metoprolol

A selective adrenergic beta-1-blocking agent with no stimulatory action. It's binding to plasma albumin is weaker than alprenolol and it may be useful in angina pectoris, hypertension, or cardiac arrhythmias.

Hypertension, Pregnancy-induced

A condition in pregnant women with elevated systolic (>140 mm Hg) and diastolic (>90 mm Hg) blood pressure on at least two occasions 6 h apart. HYPERTENSION complicates 8-10% of all pregnancies, generally after 20 weeks of gestation. Gestational hypertension can be divided into several broad categories according to the complexity and associated symptoms, such as EDEMA; PROTEINURIA; SEIZURES; abnormalities in BLOOD COAGULATION and liver functions.

Hypertension, Renovascular

Hypertension due to RENAL ARTERY OBSTRUCTION or compression.

Intracranial Hypertension

Increased pressure within the cranial vault. This may result from several conditions, including HYDROCEPHALUS; BRAIN EDEMA; intracranial masses; severe systemic HYPERTENSION; PSEUDOTUMOR CEREBRI; and other disorders.

Hypertension, Malignant

A condition of markedly elevated BLOOD PRESSURE with DIASTOLIC PRESSURE usually greater than 120 mm Hg. Malignant hypertension is characterized by widespread vascular damage, PAPILLEDEMA, retinopathy, HYPERTENSIVE ENCEPHALOPATHY, and renal dysfunction.

Study to Evaluate Symptoms in Patients Treated With Nebivolol or Metoprolol Extended-Release (ER) for Hypertension

The purpose of this study is to compare the tolerability of nebivolol to metoprolol ER in a populatoin of patients with mild to moderate hypertension also receiving hydrochlorothiazide (HC...

Comparing the Effects of Two Beta Blockers,Metoprolol and Nebivolol,on Ambulatory Blood Pressure and Basal Metabolic Rate

The purpose of the study is to compare the effects of nebivolol and metoprolol on 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure characteristics and basal metabolic rates in patients with hypertension.

Nebivolol Effect on Nitric Oxide Levels, Blood Pressure, and Renal Function in Kidney Transplant Patients

This study will investigate the blood pressure lowering efficacy of nebivolol among renal transplant recipients who are on calcineurin inhibitors which are believed to contribute to hypert...

The Effects of Nebivolol on Aortic Impedance Parameters in Type 2 Diabetes (The Effort Trial)

To examine changes in aortic impedance in patients on nebivolol vs. metoprolol succinate in Type 2 hypertensive diabetic patients as measured by the change from baseline in central systoli...

Nebivolol Versus Metoprolol: Comparative Effects on Fatigue and Quality of Life

Beta-blockers are prescribed to millions of people for treatment of hypertension. Fatigue is a recognized and common side effect of beta-blockers that can have significant effects on quali...

Effect of fixed dose combinations of metoprolol and amlodipine in essential hypertension: MARS - A randomized controlled trial.

Abstract Aim. To compare two strengths of a fixed drug combination (FDC) containing metoprolol XL and amlodipine (metoprolol/amlodipine 50/5; and metoprolol/amlodipine 25/2.5) with its components in...

Evaluation of Pharmacokinetic Interactions Between Amlodipine, Valsartan, and Hydrochlorothiazide in Patients With Hypertension.

The steady-state pharmacokinetic (PK) interaction potential between amlodipine (10 mg), valsartan (320 mg), and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ; 25 mg) was evaluated in patients with hypertension in a multi...

Pharmacokinetic interaction between metoprolol and SP-8203 in rats: competitive inhibition for the metabolism of metoprolol by SP-8203 via hepatic CYP2D subfamily.

The occurrence of cerebral ischemia is prevalent in patients with hypertension and the combination drug therapy is needed. Thus, the pharmacokinetic interaction between metoprolol (anti-hypertension d...

Mechanism underlying the efficacy of combination therapy with losartan and hydrochlorothiazide in rats with salt-sensitive hypertension.
