Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Arteriosclerosis Obliterans

Common occlusive arterial disease which is caused by ATHEROSCLEROSIS. It is characterized by lesions in the innermost layer (ARTERIAL INTIMA) of arteries including the AORTA and its branches to the extremities. Risk factors include smoking, HYPERLIPIDEMIA, and HYPERTENSION.

Hyperlipidemia, Familial Combined

A type of familial lipid metabolism disorder characterized by a variable pattern of elevated plasma CHOLESTEROL and/or TRIGLYCERIDES. Multiple genes on different chromosomes may be involved, such as the major late transcription factor (UPSTREAM STIMULATORY FACTORS) on CHROMOSOME 1.

Hyperlipoproteinemia Type V

A severe type of hyperlipidemia, sometimes familial, that it is characterized by the elevation of both plasma CHYLOMICRONS and TRIGLYCERIDES contained in VERY-LOW-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS. Type V hyperlipoproteinemia is often associated with DIABETES MELLITUS and is not caused by reduced LIPOPROTEIN LIPASE activity as in HYPERLIPOPROTEINEMIA TYPE I .

Glycogen Storage Disease Type I

An autosomal recessive disease in which gene expression of glucose-6-phosphatase is absent, resulting in hypoglycemia due to lack of glucose production. Accumulation of glycogen in liver and kidney leads to organomegaly, particularly massive hepatomegaly. Increased concentrations of lactic acid and hyperlipidemia appear in the plasma. Clinical gout often appears in early childhood.

Pitavastatin for the treatment of primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia.

Pitavastatin is a new, synthetic member of the statin class of lipid-lowering drugs. Compared with other available statins, it has a unique cyclopropyl group on its base structure that is believed to...

Effect of pitavastatin in different SLCO1B1 backgrounds on repaglinide pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in healthy Chinese males.

The effect of pitavastatin and SLCO1B1 genetic background on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of repaglinide was investigated. In this randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study...

Meta-analysis of the comparative efficacy and safety of pitavastatin and atorvastatin in patients with dyslipidaemia.

What is known and Objective:  Pitavastatin is the latest available statin. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of dyslipidaemia. This meta-analysis was aimed at evaluating the effects...

Effects of pitavastatin in Japanese patients with chronic heart failure.

Background: Recent clinical trials using rosuvastatin, a hydrophilic statin, did not show beneficial effects on cardiovascular events in patients with heart failure. We examined the cardioprotective...

The administration of pitavastatin augments creatinine clearance associated with reduction in oxidative stress parameters: acute and early effects.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious health problem worldwide. Therapies that can halt the progression of CKD are limited, and the identification of new strategies for CKD treatment i...
