Evaluation of Outcomes of Restoring Pelvic Floor Support With TOPAS in Women With Moderate Fecal Incontinence Symptoms

The study purpose is to gain experience with the TOPAS system, a minimally- invasively delivered self-fixating mesh for the treatment of pelvic floor weakness in women with symptoms of moderate fecal incontinence
Description
This is a multi-center pilot study under a common protocol using FDA 510k cleared device. Approximately 20-30 patients will be enrolled across 5 sites in the U.S. The study population is females at least 21 years of age who have attempted but have not been satisfied with conservative therapy for their fecal incontinence symptoms. The study follow-up is two years.

Pelvic Floor
Soft tissue formed mainly by the pelvic diaphragm, which is composed of the two levator ani and two coccygeus muscles. The pelvic diaphragm lies just below the pelvic aperture (outlet) and separates the pelvic cavity from the PERINEUM. It extends between the PUBIC BONE anteriorly and the COCCYX posteriorly.
Parametritis
Inflammation of the parametrium, the connective tissue of the pelvic floor, extending from the subserous coat of the uterus laterally between the layers of the BROAD LIGAMENT.
Lesser Pelvis
The part of the pelvis, inferior to the pelvic brim, that comprises both the pelvic cavity and the part of the PERINEUM lying inferior to the PELVIC DIAPHRAGM.

CARCINOMA, SMALL CELL of the lung is a frequently associated condition, although other malignancies and autoimmune diseases may be associated. Muscular weakness results from impaired impulse transmission at the NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION. Presynaptic calcium channel dysfunction leads to a reduced amount of acetylcholine being released in response to stimulation of the nerve.
