18:37 EDT 23rd May 2013 | BioPortfolio

Summary

This trial will study three doses of reslizumab versus placebo in children with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). The objectives of the trial will be to study the effectiveness of reslizumab in improving the clinical signs and symptoms and reducing esophageal eosinophils as well as assessing the safety profile compared to placebo.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Chronic ESOPHAGITIS characterized by esophageal mucosal EOSINOPHILIA. It is diagnosed when an increase in EOSINOPHILS are present over the entire esophagus. The reflux symptoms fail to respond to PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS treatment, unlike in GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE. The symptoms are associated with IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to food or inhalant allergens.

Pulmonary Eosinophilia

A condition characterized by infiltration of the lung with EOSINOPHILS due to inflammation or other disease processes. Major eosinophilic lung diseases are the eosinophilic pneumonias caused by infections, allergens, or toxic agents.

Haloarcula

A genus of HALOBACTERIACEAE distinguished from other genera in the family by the presence of specific derivatives of TGD-2 polar lipids. Haloarcula are found in neutral saline environments such as salt lakes, marine salterns, and saline soils.

Halomonadaceae

A family of gram-negative, moderately halophilic bacteria in the order Oceanospirillales. Members of the family have been isolated from temperate and Antarctic saline lakes, solar salt facilities, saline soils, and marine environments.

Esophagitis

INFLAMMATION, acute or chronic, of the ESOPHAGUS caused by BACTERIA, chemicals, or TRAUMA.
