The purpose of this study is to test whether patients who are receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU who listened to preferred, relaxing music whenever they desire for as long as they desire will have less anxiety, receive fewer medications, stay in the ICU for a shorter time, and experience less stress than patients who do not listen to music.
This prospective randomised study comparing administration of a hypo-osmolar oral hydration solution with the classical hydration via IV (intravenous) infusion in premature infants of more than 32 weeks GA (gestational age) aims to determine whether administration of a hypo-osmolar oral hydration solution is as efficient as intravenous infusion.
Safety and Pharmacokinetics of Ifetroban in Hepatorenal Syndrome Patients
Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. (CPI) is developing ifetroban for treatment of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) and proposes to conduct a study in hospitalized adult patients with HRS to assess the safety and pharmacokinetics of escalating doses of ifetroban.
Screen-and-treat approach reduces postabortal pelvic inflammatory disease after induced abortion, and at the same time alters women's sexual behavior and prevents further re-infection by sexually transmitted infections when compared to the universal antibiotic prophylaxis strategy.
Neuropathic Pain Study With Botulinum Toxin A in Spinal Cord Injury Patients
The purpose of this study is to determine whether botulinum toxin A is effective in the treatment of neuropathic pain in spinal cord injury patients.
This randomized phase II trial is studying how well giving tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) together with or without sirolimus works in preventing acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients undergoing donor stem cell transplant for hematologic cancer. Giving low doses of chemotherapy, such as fludarabine phosphate, and total-body-irradiation before a donor peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It also stops the patient's...
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Vanquix for the management of selected, refractory, patients with epilepsy who require intermittent medical intervention provided by caregivers who are not health care professionals, and who are not under the direct supervision of a healthcare professional at the time of administration to control episodes of acute repetitive seizures (ARS).
Non Interventional Post Marketing Programme in Acromegaly
The purpose of this study, is to assess the safety and local tolerability of the long-term use of Somatuline Autogel when administered by patients or their partners ("Home Injection Group") and the safety and local tolerability in patients receiving their injection from a healthcare professional (HCP) ("Reference Group").
Erlotinib and Sirolimus for the Treatment of Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma
The purpose of this study is to test the safety and efficacy of the combination of erlotinib hydrochloride (Tarceva™) and sirolimus (Rapamune™) in the treatment of patients with metastatic kidney cancer.
This study will evaluate whether the drug mifepristone can improve the symptoms of Cushing's syndrome in people with ectopic adrenal corticotrophin hormone (ACTH) secretion. Cushing's syndrome occurs when the adrenal glands produce too much cortisol, a hormone that helps to regulate the body's use of salt and food. Excessive cortisol is usually the result of too much ACTH, the hormone that causes the adrenal glands to make cortisol. The extra ACTH is made either by a tumor in t...
Tipifarnib may stop the growth of breast cancer by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving tipifarnib together with combination chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects...
RATIONALE: Aromatase inhibitors, such as letrozole, prevent the formation of estradiol, a female hormone. Giving letrozole together with goserelin, leuprolide, or surgery may be an effective treatment in women with hormone-dependent breast cancer. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving letrozole together with goserelin or leuprolide works in treating premenopausal estrogen receptor-positive patients with stage IV breast cancer.
RATIONALE: Dasatinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well dasatinib works in treating patients with advanced lung cancer that is no longer responding to erlotinib or gefitinib.
This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of treating patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) or myelopdysplastic syndrome (MDS) with both peripheral blood stem cells from a family member and umbilical cord blood stem cells from an unrelated donor. Patients with SAA or MDS for whom other treatments have failed or are not available may be eligible for this study. Candidates may not have a tissue-matched sibling or matched unrelated donor and must have a family m...
Direct Stimulation Of Spinal Nerve Roots To Determine Sensory And Motor Innervation Patterns
The purpose of this study is to collect data while monitoring muscles and nerves during spine surgery. The data being collected and analyzed will be used to learn more about how the body's nerves and muscles are distributed and develop a map of human muscle innervation patterns.
Retinoblastoma Survivor Study: Assessment of General Health and Quality of Life
The purpose of this study is to find out about the quality of life and health in a group of adults who had retinoblastoma when they were children. By quality of life, we mean how you are feeling about being satisfied with things in your life, including your physical health, your emotional health, and your ability to carry out daily activities. We hope that this information will help us provide better care to future children with retinoblastoma and better follow-up care for surv...
Ketoprofen 10% Cream for Treatment of Pain Associated With Mild to Moderate Acute Soft Tissue Injury

Phase 2A Study of NPC-1C Chimeric Monoclonal Antibody to Treat Pancreatic and Colorectal Cancer
The purpose of the phase 2A component of this study is to determine if giving the immune molecule NPC-1C to individuals who have cancer of the pancreas or gastrointestinal tract (colon or rectum) which has not responded to standard treatments can shrink or halt the growth of cancer, and to obtain additional data to study its effect on the immune system. Safety data will also be accumulated and evaluated during this study. NPC-1C is an antibody (a protein that can help 'turn on...
Factors Associated With in Suboptimal Prescribing for Older Patients With Epilepsy
Nearly 2% of veterans >65 are actively treated for epilepsy, and the incidence is projected to increase with the aging of our society. Since commonly used antiepileptic drugs are considered suboptimal for older patients, it is important to understand existing patterns of treatment for older veterans with epilepsy.
Internet Diabetes Self-Management Workshop
The purpose of this study is to determine of the effectiveness of an Internet based Diabetes Self-Management workshop for people with type II diabetes. Half of the people who complete the workshop will be invited to continue their education by participating in a email discussion group. Thus, we will be able to learn both the efficacy of the original program as well as its efficacy when reinforced by the discussion group. Diabetes is a disease that must be managed day by day...

To document changes in the level of sustained disability as measured by the expanded disability status score (EDSS) and ambulation index (AI),...
Telepsychology-Service Delivery for Depressed Elderly Veterans
The purpose of this study is to see whether therapy for elderly adults with major depression can be delivered effectively using videoconferencing technology ("telepsychology"), which allows a therapist and patient who are not in the same room as one another to communicate. We are interested in learning if this form of mental health service delivery is an acceptable alternative to traditional face-to-face therapy delivered with the therapist in the same room as the patient.
