A Randomized Clinical Trial for Toddlers With ASD
This research is being done to test the effectiveness of two treatments aimed at increasing language and social skills in children with autism spectrum disorder. If children show improvement in these treatments, we hope that the availability of public services for minority and low income families will be increased. Minority and low income families with children between 22 and 33 months of age with Autism Spectrum Disorders may join.
Improving Attention Skills of Children With Autism
Toddlers with autism have poor joint attention skills. Joint attention skills include pointing to objects, following another person’s gaze, and responding to invitations to join in a social interaction. Improved joint attention skills may lead to better verbal ability as the child ages. This study teaches caregivers how to help their toddlers with autism develop joint attention skills.
School- and Home-Based Early Intervention for Toddlers With Autism
This study will determine the impact of early intervention on the communication and social development of toddlers with autism.
Comparing Parent-Implemented Interventions for Toddlers With Autism Spectrum Disorders
This study will compare the effectiveness of two parent-based programs for helping young children at risk of autism.
Galantamine Versus Placebo in Childhood Autism
Autism is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder that affects up to 16 in 10,000 individuals. It is a pervasive developmental disorder affecting social, communicative, and compulsive/repetitive behaviors characterized by stereotypic complex hand and body movements, craving for sameness, and narrow repetitive interests. Autism severely impacts both the affected individual and family members. The proposed study is designed to assess the efficacy of treatment with Galantamine vs....
Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Brain Development in Autism
The purpose of this study is to investigate brain development in autism by longitudinally assessing children with autism, as well as typically developing controls, using advanced MR techniques. We will use longitudinal diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) measures to investigate the protracted development of long-range white matter fibers in autism. In addition, we will investigate the effect of autism risk genes on brain development.
A Trial of CM-AT in Children With Autism
The purpose of this study is to determine whether CM-AT is safe and effective in treating the core symptoms of autism.
Autism in Adult Patients and the Effects on Caregivers
Background: The number of adults with autism is expected to rise significantly in the near future, due to two main reasons: First, a dramatic increase in the estimates of the prevalence of autism starting in the mid 1980s; Second, the clinical diagnosis of autism was first introduced during the 1950s, and those diagnosed with autism back then are only now entering middle age. Few studies, however, have focused on the outcomes of adult autistic individuals, and very little is kn...
Relationship Training for Children With Autism and Their Peers
This study will determine whether peer interaction training interventions are effective in enhancing the social relationships of children with autism.
Early Characteristics of Autism
This study will identify factors that distinguish children with autism from children with developmental delay and those with normal development and study the efficacy of intensive behavioral therapy in children with autism.
Childhood Autism Risks From Genetics and the Environment (The CHARGE Study)

Oxcarbazepine Versus Placebo in Childhood Autism
The proposed study is designed to assess the effectiveness of treatment with Oxcarbazepine vs. placebo in childhood/adolescent autism. This is a twelve-week study involving twenty subjects between the ages of five and seventeen with a diagnosis of autism.
This study aims to investigate the overlap and differences between autism and MCDD as neuropsychiatric childhood disorders. MRI scans are acquired from subjects with autism, subjects with a diagnosis of MCDD and typically developing controls. Volumetric measure of various brain regions are compared between groups. We hypothesize that subjects with autism will have larger brains than controls, whereas subjects with MCDD will have smaller brains.
Interventions for Communication in Autism Network
The goal of this project is to compare the efficacy of two interventions for improving spoken language and reducing symptoms of autism.
Studies of Autistic Patients: Gene Networks and Clinical Subtypes
Background: - Researchers who are studying autism spectrum disorders are interested in developing a collection of research samples from both children with autism and healthy individuals, some of whom may be related to the children with autism. - The genetic condition tuberous sclerosis, which can cause the growth of benign tumors in the brain and other parts of the body, is also linked with autism. Researchers have been able to determine the sp...

Divalproex Sodium vs. Placebo in Childhood/Adolescent Autism
The study is designed to assess the efficacy of treatment with divalproex sodium (DS) vs. placebo in childhood/adolescent autism fulfilling DSM-IV and Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI) criteria. Currently, there are no FDA-approved treatments for this disorder, although behavioral and educational therapies and a variety of medications may play a role in the management of some autistic symptoms.
This study is designed to examine the efficacy of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program for treating core autism symptoms, social and emotional problems, and adaptive behavior deficits in children with autism spectrum disorders.
