Original Source: Effect of chromium content on mechanical properties of casting Ti-Cr alloys.
The mechanical properties of a series of binary Ti-Cr alloys were investigated. Chromium content ranged from 5 to 20 mass%. Dumbbell- and disk-shaped specimens of each alloy were obtained by casting for mechanical testing and microstructural observation. Yield strength (YS) at 0.2%, tensile strength (TS), elongation (EL) and Vickers hardness (Hv) were determined. The TS and YS of Ti-15Cr were similar to those of Ti-20Cr at approximately 880 or 900 MPa and higher than those of cp-Ti by nearly 55%. Among all...

Nanostructured high-strength molybdenum alloys with unprecedented tensile ductility
Although the kind of molybdenum alloys used in turbines and fusion reactors can be easily hardened, they suffer from low ductility and toughness. Now, a nanostructuring processing route that leads to...
Iron-platinum alloys show promise for next-generation hard drives
Meeting the demand for more data storage in smaller volumes means using materials made up of ever-smaller magnets, or nanomagnets. One promising material for a potential new generation of recording me...

Surface characterization and bond strengths between Ti-20Cr-1X alloys and low-fusing porcelain.
This study evaluated the bond strengths between experimental Ti-20Cr-1X (X=Nb, Mo, Fe, Zr) alloys and porcelain (Duceratin). The results of this bond strength testing indicated that all the Ti-20Cr-1X...
Segregation and Stability in Surface Alloys: Pd(x) Ru(1-x) /Ru(0001) and Pt(x) Ru(1-x) /Ru(0001).
The stability of PdRu/Ru(0001) and PtRu/Ru(0001) surface alloys and the tendency for surface segregation of Pd and Pt subsurface guest metals in these surface alloys is studied by scanning tunneling m...
