We propose the use of a new biopolymer, acetalated dextran (Ac-DEX), to synthesize porous microparticles for pulmonary drug delivery. Ac-DEX is derived from the polysaccharide dextran and, unlike polyesters, has tunable degradation from days to months and pH neutral degradation products.
