Traumatic Sequestrated Thoracic Disc Herniation; A Case Report.

Traumatic thoracic disc herniation is an extremely rare pathology. We will present a case (3rd report in the literature, 1st case with sequestrated-extruded disc herniation) of thoracic disc herniation that was sequestrated only by ligamentous injury without thoracic osseous pathology.

The Relationship Between Vasoactive-Inotropic Score and Mortality in the Adult Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury Managed in the Intensive Care Unit.

Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI) is one of the leading causes of mortality. Vasoactive and inotropic drugs are commonly administered in these patients in case of hypotension. We aim to assess the feasibility of the Vasoactive-Inotropic Score(VIS) in determining the amount of vasoactive support and its relationship with the mortality rate.

Anxiety-Linked Attentional Bias: Is It Reliable?

There is substantial evidence that heightened anxiety vulnerability is characterized by increased selective attention to threatening information. The reliability of this anxiety-linked attentional bias has become the focus of considerable recent interest. We distinguish between the potential inconsistency of anxiety-linked attentional bias and inconsistency potentially reflecting the psychometric ...

Rejection Sensitivity and Borderline Personality Disorder Features: The Mediating Roles of Attachment Anxiety, Need to Belong, and Self-Criticism.

Rejection hypersensitivity has been considered the core feature of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, little is known about the possible developmental mechanisms that might explain the association between rejection sensitivity and BPD features. The current study investigated the mediating roles of adult attachment, need to belong, and self-criticism in the association be...

Alexithymic traits can explain the association between puberty and symptoms of depression and anxiety in adolescent females.

Symptoms of internalizing disorders such as depression and anxiety increase in adolescence, especially in females. However, gender differences in depression and anxiety symptoms emerge only after puberty onset. Levels of alexithymia, characterized by difficulties identifying and describing one's emotions, are elevated in depression and anxiety, and fluctuate across adolescence in a gender-specific...

The effects of component-specific treatment compliance in individually tailored internet-based treatment.

The objective of this study was to explore the effects of treatment compliance in a guided individually tailored internet-based treatment (TAIL) in relation to depression and comorbid symptoms. Compliance with the homework in the different treatment components in TAIL, each aimed at a specific condition, were rated for 207 participants by independent assessors. Six subgroups (n = 34-131) were cons...

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Clarion Call for Care of the Postconcussive Spectrum.

Assessment of Follow-up Care After Emergency Department Presentation for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Concussion: Results From the TRACK-TBI Study.

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) affects millions of Americans each year. Lack of consistent clinical practice raises concern that many patients with mTBI may not receive adequate follow-up care.

Association of Use of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids With Changes in Severity of Anxiety Symptoms: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

No systematic review or meta-analysis has assessed the efficacy of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) for anxiety.

Association Between 5-Year Clinical Outcome in Patients With Nonmedically Evacuated Mild Blast Traumatic Brain Injury and Clinical Measures Collected Within 7 Days Postinjury in Combat.

Although previous work has examined clinical outcomes in combat-deployed veterans, questions remain regarding how symptoms evolve or resolve following mild blast traumatic brain injury (TBI) treated in theater and their association with long-term outcomes.

Social Injustice and the Cycle of Traumatic Childhood Experiences and Multiple Problems in Adulthood.

The effect of mirroring display of virtual reality tour of the operating theatre on preoperative anxiety: A randomized controlled trial.

A virtual reality (VR) tour of the operating theatre could reduce preoperative anxiety by providing a realistic experience for children. This randomized clinical trial was designed to determine whether parental co-experience of preoperative VR tour through a mirroring display could further reduce preoperative anxiety. Eighty children scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia were ran...

Effects of mild traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder on resting-state default mode network connectivity.

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are common outcomes for service members. Abnormal connectivity within neural networks has been reported in the resting brain of mTBI and PTSD patients, respectively; however, the potential role of PTSD in changes to neural networks following injury has not been studied in detail. Using a data-driven approach, the present ...

NMDA receptor in the hippocampus alters neurobehavioral phenotypes through inflammatory cytokines in rats with sporadic Alzheimer-like disease.

Many patients with sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD) suffer from memory impairment, anxiety- and depression. The systemic utility of N-Methyl-d-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists has been shown to be potential therapeutic target for memory loss in AD. However, there is no evidence that shows whether NMDA receptor antagonists have the same effects when these blockers are directly used within the...

Neuromodulatory treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Electroconvulsive therapy has been used successfully in some individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) whose symptoms have not improved with other treatments. But there are only a few reports. Meanwhile, an array of new neuromodulation strategies, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, trigeminal nerve s...

Biomarkers of inflammatory external root resorption as a result of traumatic dental injury to permanent teeth in children.

External inflammatory root resorption (EIRR) is a common complication of traumatic dental injury (TDI) that can be detected radiologically. During EIRR, various proteins are released into gingival sulcus fluid (GCF). The aim of the study was to monitor the levels of selected proteins in GCF in children (8-16 years of age) in order to assess their utility in the early diagnosis of EIRR.

Subjective traumatic outlook as a screening tool for psychological trauma: Cut-off values and diagnostic criteria.

The Subjective Traumatic Outlook (STO) deals with changes in individuals' perception, following a traumatic event and the difficulties of integrating pre-trauma past memories, inner traumatic memories, and current daily life. Although this short scale has excellent psychometric properties its cut-off scores for potential clinical use have yet to be established. In addition, due to the discrepancy ...

One hertz versus ten hertz repetitive TMS treatment of PTSD: A randomized clinical trial.

The purpose of this trial was to test whether right prefrontal cortex 1 Hz versus 10 Hz rTMS provides a significantly greater improvement in PTSD symptoms and/or function. Veterans 18 to 50 years of age suffering from PTSD were randomized to right prefrontal 1 Hz rTMS [2400 pulses/session] versus right prefrontal 10 Hz rTMS [2400 pulses/session]. The treatments were performed 5 days a week...

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and the risk of anxiety disorders in adolescence: Findings from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children.

The effect of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) on offspring anxiety disorders in adolescence is not yet known. This study aims to examine the association between HDP and offspring anxiety disorders at age 15 years.
