Celltech Group plc Company Profile

16:47 EST 18th November 2017 | BioPortfolio

Celltech is one of the largest companies in the European biopharmaceutical sector.

The Group consists of two operating companies; Celltech Chiroscience, the discovery and development business; and Celltech Medeva, the marketing and distribution business. The synergies between these arms creates greater value for products in the pipeline and enhances the Group’s ability to sustain a strong pipeline.

· By marketing selected products discovered in Celltech Chiroscience through Celltech Medeva the Group will retain a greater share of the gross profit than would otherwise have been obtained through outlicensing.

· The significant operational cash flows provided by Celltech Medeva support the sustained investment in R&D.

· The expanded R&D organisation allows greater scope for in-licensing of product candidates from early to late stage R&D which will be used to support internal product innovation in building a growing robust pipeline.

Prior to the merger in January 2000 with Medeva Celltech Chiroscience followed a partnering strategy to allow the company to build up its strengths in drug discovery and rapid product development. Development and marketing partnerships will continue to form part of the Group’s strategy where appropriate, particularly for doctor’s office products requiring broad international distribution. Current product development partners include Abbott, Alcon, American Home Products, AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, Maruishi, Purdue Pharma, Schering-Plough and Merck & Co.
