Structural GenomiX (SGX) is revolutionizing the use of protein structure in the drug discovery process, helping to create safer, more effective medicines. Using high-throughput structural biology, SGX is translating the wealth of genetic and genomic information generated over recent years into structural templates for drug discovery, on an industrial scale. Availability of the 3-dimensional structure of a protein target can aid drug discovery at many points in the process, particularly in lead discovery and optimization, as well as at the earlier stages of target identification and validation.

Historically, it has been expensive, difficult and time-consuming to obtain structures of proteins early enough in the drug discovery process for the information to have an impact. Our state-of-the-art technology platform leverages our experimental and computational technologies to provide high-resolution views of protein structures much faster than was previously possible.

In addition to solving the structures of the distinct targets, SGX also solves the structures of the targets bound to compounds selected from chemical libraries. Known as "co-crystal" structures, these detailed images allow chemists to directly visualize how compounds bind to the target of interest, and therefore enables them to make informed decisions about how to improve upon chemistry "leads".

At present, optimization of lead compounds is a key bottleneck for pharmaceutical R&D programs. Our platform is designed to provide the right structure at the right time, for our partners and our internal programs, thereby accelerating the lead optimization process and helping to bring more effective medicines to market.
