Sutter Instruments Company Company Profile

08:57 EST 20th November 2017 | BioPortfolio

Sutter Instrument Company, a privately held corporation, was founded in 1974 as a manufacturer of biomedical research instrumentation. The company was built on strong links with the University of California at San Francisco, and collaborations with research scientists in a number of university departments. The company objective was to develop and manufacture precision electromechanical devices that could be used to overcome technical barriers associated with electrophysiology experimental techniques. Micropipette fabrication devices, including a micropipette puller and micropipette beveler were the first products introduced by the company. These devices are used to produce the fundamental tools necessary to perform biological research at a cellular level. Based upon the success of these products, the company developed a complementary product line of micropositioning devices. Most recently, the advent of fluorescence microscopy imaging techniques in physiological research has catalyzed Sutter's entrance into imaging hardware manufacturing with the introduction of a line of optical filter wheels.
