Beta Technology Ltd is a private company established in 1984, by Dr Bob Keown OBE.

Originally a lecturer in Metallurgy at Sheffield University, Bob set up his own consultancy company in 1984 and later went on to set up an employment agency hiring out scientists to industry such as British Steel (Corus), the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Central Science Laboratory (CSL).

Since then the company has grown in size and taken on more public sector contracts from organisations such as the DTI, DEFRA (formally known as MAFF), Yorkshire Forward, European Commission (EC), Advantage West Midlands and One NorthEast.

Today Beta's main objective is to encourage small and large companies throughout the UK to be more technically proactive.

Beta does this by providing assistance to companies wanting to apply for European research and development funding and by providing innovation services to companies to help them develop, promote and acquire new technologies.

Beta is the designated UK National Contact Point (NCP) for a number of areas of FP6 including SMEs, Life Sciences and Research and Innovation. Additionally, Beta is the Innovation Relay Centre (IRC) for the Yorkshire and Humber region and is a partner in 5 FP6 projects.

Beta's head office is located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and we have a subsidiary office in Middlesbrough on Teesside. The Company currently employs 28 full time staff and 40 consultants and researchers.
