Innovative NeuroTechnologies, Inc Company Profile

08:17 EST 10th December 2018 | BioPortfolio

The sequencing of the first draft of the entire Human Genome in 2001 has been a monumental scientific achievement. However, simple knowledge of the DNA sequence does not necessarily elucidate the particular function of a gene or its corresponding products, such as the mRNA or protein. Thus, functional genomic and proteomic technologies are required to understand the functions of genes and its products. These technologies have been particularly beneficial in accelerating the pace of drug discovery in which modern therapeutics are “customed tailored” according to an individual’s specific genetic make-up (i.e., pharmacogenomics). In addition, transgenic mouse models of human disorders have proven to be indispensable in offering opportunities to detect and follow pathologic progression and provide potential biomarkers by which to assess therapeutic interventions. The invention of the 3xTg-AD model in 2003 was a significant achievement in further elucidating the molecular pathogenesis of AD. Still, the full potential of this animal model has not been reached, especially on how gene and protein expression profiling of the 3xTg can be used to identify novel biomarkers for AD which in turn can be used to develop new therapeutics
