The early years of Pictet The "Banque De Candolle Mallet & Cie" was founded on 23 July 1805. The name Pictet & Cie was adopted 120 years later. The "Banque de Candolle Mallet & Cie" was founded on 23 July 1805. It was run by two partners-managers, Jacob-Michel François de Candolle and Jacques-Henry Mallet, as well as by three limited partners, Jean-Louis Mallet, brother of the latter, Paul Martin and Jean-Louis Falquet, a syndic after the Restauration. The small bank was located at the Cour St-Pierre until 1819.According to its Memorandum of Association, the new Bank's purpose was "to trade in goods and articles of all types, collect annuities and undertake speculation in commodities". This status reflected the general nature of business conducted at the time by Genevan banks, which had all started as traders in goods.Very early, however, the Bank abandoned trading to concentrate on assisting clients in their financial and commercial business as well as advising them on the art of managing their wealth. Back then these activities were already considered as investment advice and foreign exchange trading. Geneva's bankers, true successors of the gold merchants and money-changers of the Middle Ages, were experts in handling currency problems. At that time, each bank was allowed to issue its own bank-notes to avoid the hefty costs and dangers of moving "écus" and "louis d'or" physically from one place to another.

Characterization of a new microbial Pictet-Spenglerase NscbB affording the β-carboline skeletonsfrom Nocardiopsis synnemataformans DSM 44143.

Theenzymatic Pictet-Spengler (PS) reaction, catalyzed by Pictet-Spenglerase (PSase), is the feature ofβ-carboline (βC) alkaloid biosynthesis. NscbB is a raremicrobial PSase discovered from a cryptic...

Asymmetric Synthesis of (R)-1-Alkyl Substituted Tetrahydro-ß-carbolines Catalyzed by Strictosidine Synthases.

Stereoselective methods for the synthesis of tetrahydro-ß-carbolines are of significant interest due to the broad spectrum of biological activity of the target molecules. In the plant kingdom stricto...

Construction of the Pentacyclic Core and Formal Total Synthesis of ()-Renieramycin T.

A formal total synthesis of the antitumor marine natural product ()-renieramycin T, which possesses a characteristic ecteinascidin-type A ring in the renieramycin-saframycin core skeleton, was ela...

Stereoselective Access to the Core Structure of Macroline-Type Indole Alkaloids: Total Synthesis of Macroline and Alstomicine.

Rapid synthesis of the pentacyclic core structure of macroline-type indole alkaloids, and its application in the total synthesis of macroline and alstomicine is described. The core structure was accom...

Direct Biomimetic Synthesis of β-Carboline Alkaloids from Two Amino Acids.

The increasing importance of enzyme mimics in organic synthesis inspired us to design a novel biomimetic synthesis of β-carboline alkaloids directly from tryptophan and a second amino acid. This nove...
