Formed in 1996 Tissue Science Laboratories plc (TSL) is an independent medical device company dedicated to the research, development and marketing of tissue implant products. TSL's first product, Permacol™ surgical implant was approved for use in the EU in 1997. In September 1999 TSL signed its first worldwide distribution agreement with CR BARD Inc for surgical applications in the fields of urology and gynaecology and in February 2000 under the brand name Pelvicol™ Acellular Collagen Matrix the product was launched in the EU. An FDA 510(k) clearance was granted and the product was successfully launched in the USA in 2001 under the same brand name. Since that time two further 510(k) FDA clearances have been obtained for rotator cuff repairs in orthopaedics and for head and face surgery. In September 2003 TSL signed an exclusive multi-year worldwide distribution agreement to distribute Permacol™ surgical implant for rotator cuff repairs
