Overview of First Wave:

First Wave Technology is a medical device company developing products for the acute care and long- term care markets.  Our focus is to significantly enhance healthcare innovation by focusing on products which, historically, have not seen meaningful change. Our suite of medical devices are centered around improving the ease and accuracy of pharmaceutical delivery and providing a better healthcare experience for both patients and caregivers.

First Wave identifies innovative medical device opportunities, usually originating out of universities otherwise overlooked by other investors.  We believe that high-return opportunities exist in many non-traditional markets that go unnoticed by the majority of venture capitalists who typically target higher-profile centers of excellence for emerging innovation.  At First Wave, emphasis is placed on addressing meaningful patient care issues significantly impacting today’s healthcare landscape.

First Wave looks to invest in products that:

  • Provide significant benefit to both patients and caregivers
  • Are used on a regular (daily) basis by a large patient population
  • Offer significant improvement to existing products that have seen little innovation or have otherwise been overlooked

First Wave works by offering:

  • Capital – Growth capital for bringing concepts and working prototypes to full fruition as finished product.
  • Acumen – Continuous support from First Wave’s skilled management and experiences advisory team so new products adhere to all regulatory guidelines and reach their full potential.
  • Introductions –  Inroads into the leading hospitals, nursing homes and major distributors.  First Wave’s already has agreements and arrangements in place with many of the major healthcare providers.  As a result, new products can be easily added in to First Wave’s full offering.

Lead Products:

(1) First Crush® automated pill crusher is an automated technology that allows patients to receive their medication in a manner that is more accurately dosed, has a higher grade of refinement, and is easier to swallow.  These attributes support better patient compliance with prescribed medication and ultimately a healthier patient.

(2) Clarity-IA® is a next-generation anesthesia system expanding the use of inhaled anesthetics worldwide.  Currently undergoing 501(k) approval, the Clarity-IA system is based on a licensed portfolio of 55 patents and applications from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  The system and platform technology have characteristics that include: (1) the ability to cost-effectively convert existing ventilators into an anesthesia machine, (2) a self-regulation technology ensuring accurate dosing for patients, and (3) a disposable device design that reduces the risk of environmental and patient contamination by isolating airflow between the ventilator and patient.

First Wave’s management, board of advisors, and scientific teams have experience in: medical device development, venture capital, clinical research, manufacturing, business development, and sales and marketing.
