Where does the balance lie between technology and compassion in nursing?

A campaign launched in the UK today called This Is Nursing highlights the reality of the nursing profession. The campaign, run by the national professional body, Royal College of Nursing (RCN), highlights the balance of professional requirements and compassion that is needed by nurses.
Nurses represent the backbone of the front line of healthcare, yet their role is one of continual press scrutiny and public debate. They represent the two aspects of healthcare: human compassion and care; and the technological advances that facilitate that care delivery. As a profession it is constantly being revised, with new training and equipment redefining the roles.
There is no doubt nursing is challenging and rewarding – technology can add and remove challenges and help improve outcomes and make the profession rewarding, but human compassion has a enormously significantly role as well.
