SALT LAKE CITY, July 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Overstock.com, Inc., (NASDAQ:OSTK) is proud to partner with NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations to present Clear the Shelters – a first-of-its-kind nationwide pet adoption drive that will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15 in 19 markets across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The Clear the Shelters initiative pairs 28 local NBC and Telemundo stations and the regional news network, necn, with more than 300 animal shelters across the country to help find new homes for thousands of homeless pets. Participating animal shelters will offer no-cost or reduced fee adoptions or will waive pet spaying and neutering fees.

Overstock.com is the main sponsor for the event, which will be promoted in the designated markets for three weeks leading up to the Aug. 15 Clear the Shelters day.
Since March 2014, Overstock.com has referred over 40,000 people to pet shelters through its pet adoption service. Users have access to real-time updates of adoptable animals in shelters nationwide and can search for specific types and breeds, as well as by gender, age, and color.
