MISSISSAUGA, ON -- (Marketwired) -- 08/06/15 -- Mississauga Dental Specialists is pleased to recognize the involvement of their orthodontic specialist, Dr. Girish S. Deshpande, with the non-profit organization Smiles Change Lives.
Dr. Deshpande has been working with Smiles Change Lives to provide free orthodontic treatment to young patients from low-income families in the Mississauga, Ajax and Whitby areas.
Since its establishment in 1997, Smiles Change Lives has helped more than 7,000 children from low-income backgrounds receive much-needed orthodontic care. The organization works with more than 700 orthodontists throughout the United States and Canada to serve children in-need of dental therapies.
For moderate to severely misaligned teeth, corrective orthodontic treatment is especially important to prevent further dental problems. Crooked teeth or poor bite, known as malocclusion, can lead to poor oral health, ineffective chewing and digestion, and problems with jaw alignment. Additionally, protruding or crooked teeth are more susceptible to dental trauma and fracture, especially in younger, more active patients -- not to mention the impact that crooked teeth can have on a child's self-esteem. Performing corrective orthodontic treatments early helps prevent the development of more serious issues as children's teeth and bite alignment grow and change.
By providing braces to children in-need through the Smiles Changes Lives program, Dr. Deshpande and the team at Mississauga Dental Specialists are able to promote excellent oral health for young people in their community.
