TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/10/15 -- LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services ("LifeLabs") today announced the launch of my results - an online portal that provides Ontario patients with quick, easy and secure access to most of their LifeLabs test results within 24-48 hours. The free, secure, web-based service has been developed to meet the needs of the growing number of patients who want direct access to their laboratory results.
LifeLabs first piloted my results in December 2014 in a few communities across Ontario. The feedback from interviews and surveys conducted with my results patients and healthcare provider participants demonstrates that patients feel more informed and better prepared for discussions with their health care providers when they have access to their lab results. Eighty-nine percent of patients and seventy percent of physicians surveyed were satisfied with my ehealth. Patients and healthcare providers agree that patients managing chronic diseases can benefit from the online access to lab results service. As one patient who is using the service said, "I like the availability of it, especially because I'm diabetic. I can take a look and see where my sugar levels are going."
The Ontario findings are consistent with the experience in British Columbia where over 500,000 patients have had electronic access to their lab results since 2010 on the same secure platform. In a study titled "Impacts of direct patient access to laboratory results in BC" released by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) and Canada Health Infoway, the authors confirm the high levels of patient satisfaction with having direct access to results. LifeLabs understands the importance of providing patients and healthcare providers with real-time, relevant clinical information. Direct access by patients and healthcare providers to lab test results delivers information that will allow patients and their care team to make decisions so that they can live healthy and stay healthy: one of the key objectives in Ontario's Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care.
"Access to lab test results gives Canadians the practical information they need to help manage their health, make informed decisions and engage in more productive conversations with their healthcare providers," said Sue Paish, President and CEO of LifeLabs. "In launching my results, we are empowering patients to take charge of their health and their health information through direct access to health information in real-time."
Developed by Excelleris Technologies ("Excelleris"), a wholly owned subsidiary of LifeLabs, my results uses industry best practices for privacy and security. Most test results are available through my results and are posted to patients' accounts within 24-48 hours.
my results is now available at all LifeLabs Patient Service Centres across Ontario and will soon be available at LifeLabs-owned, CML Healthcare locations. More information is available in our Patient Service Centres and on www.lifelabs.com/patients/Pages/Test-Results.aspx.
