USHCC Announces Panelists for Mayoral Plenary

20:00 EDT 11 Aug 2015 | Globe Newswire

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to announce that Mayor Ralph Becker of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mayor Bob Buckhorn of Tampa, Florida; and Mayor Ivy Taylor of San Antonio, Texas will join the organization's "Mayoral Plenary and the Future of Jobs in America" during the organization's 2015 National Convention on September 22 in Houston, Texas. Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Julián Castro, former three-term Mayor of San Antonio, will serve as moderator for the panel.

Today's mayors not only have a local footprint, but a global reach – attracting the brightest minds and industry leaders from around the world to live, enrich and invest in their cities. Please join us at the USHCC Mayoral Plenary for an insightful discussion with mayors from prominent American cities about their work to build and innovate economies for the 21st Century.

At a time when partisan gridlock dominates Washington politics, mayors from across the country continue to uphold the responsibility of pursuing bold, pro-growth business initiatives that sustain their communities and help entrepreneurs create jobs. This year's plenary will be a candid, revealing and informative conversation about the challenges and opportunities faced by the "modern municipal CEO" - the American mayor.

"The USHCC is delighted to have Mayors Becker, Buckhorn and Taylor participating in this year's plenary. Their experiences span across the country from the West Coast to the Gulf Coast. These local statesmen are transformative figures in their communities – living illustrations of American leadership and innovation at its finest," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "We look forward to having Secretary Castro, an accomplished former mayor who is now committed to ending homelessness in America, for what will be a very robust and informative exchange."

Topics for this plenary will include everything from local entrepreneurship and business development, race relations, crime, poverty, public health and safety, conservation of natural resources and emergency management.
