West Dermatology recently welcomed Dr. Michael Mortazie as the newest member of their expert staff. Focusing on medical dermatology, Dr. Mortazie did his dermatology residency at Michigan State University/St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, after graduating from Emory University with a B.S. in biology. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
“I’m pleased to join West Dermatology and be part of a dermatology practice that is focused on top-notch patient care,” says Dr. Mortazie. “I chose dermatology because the skin is a wonderful and often mysterious organ that needs continuous care and attention. West Dermatology’s vision and mission to understand patient fears as well as their health goals and overall life ambitions through regular, frank communication aligns well with my own purpose, which is to treat each patient like family.”
Dr. Mortazie’s specialty is skin cancer and Mohs micrographic surgery for treatment of the cancer. In fact, he underwent fellowship training in Mohs surgery and dermatologic oncology at the world-renowned Bennett Surgery Center of Santa Monica, CA. He is also active on the American Academy of Dermatology’s Learning Resource Committee, which helps keep practicing dermatologists updated on the latest advances in the world of dermatology. Moreover, he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on skin cancer.
“An important part of my duties as a medical dermatologist focused on skin cancer is regular reading and continuous research,” Dr. Mortazie says. “Medicine and medical technology are evolving so quickly that discarding research and not being current with new, effective treatments or techniques would be a disservice to my patients. And as we continue to expand our knowledge of skin cancer, I can help patients protect themselves by taking steps to prevent future skin issues such as skin cancer.”
Dr. Mortazie’s commitment to his patients, passion for treating their dermatology concerns, and expertise in providing the best possible outcomes are key reasons that patients feel at ease around him. A consultation with Dr. Mortazie allows him to find out and understand which challenges and options a patient could have in successfully treating their medical dermatology conditions. “To me, each patient is a blank canvas; each one deserves to be seen and treated as a unique individual, not as part of a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach,” says Dr. Mortazie. “Communication is paramount because patients deserve to have a say in their treatment – everyone’s life is unique, as are each patient’s health goals. I became a doctor for just this reason – to help others achieve their goals – and joining West Dermatology in Newport Beach will give me the best chance to improve people’s lives.”
For more than 60 years, West Dermatology has been providing patients with the best treatment possible through a combination of expertise, compassion, convenience, and comprehensive care. Through multiple locations across the West Coast in California, Nevada, and Arizona, West Dermatology offers a network composed of millions of patients with 24/7 access to doctors, records, and bill payment.
