(University of Texas at Austin, Texas Advanced Computing Center) Since 2011, a mysterious illness known as Yellow Canopy Syndrome (YCS) has afflicted Australian sugarcane causing $40 million in losses. Researchers from The University of Texas at Tyler and Sugar Research Australia used supercomputers at the Texas Advanced Computing Center to perform large-scale investigations of the sugarcane genome. They detected signals in the data that could indicate a bacteria or stress causing YCS. They are conducting further computational studies to test their hypotheses.
