Industry group Life Sciences Queensland has appointed Professor Peter Andrews as its new chairman.

With years of experience in academia leading multidisciplinary scientific teams and establishing entrepreneurial research centres, Andrews brings with him a wealth of knowledge and will help to strengthen the life sciences industry in the state. He served as Queensland’s Chief Scientist for seven years, from 2003 to 2010.

“Having been part of the team that helped bring Life Sciences Queensland Limited (LSQ) into being, I am truly excited by the opportunity to help strengthen and shape the further growth of the life sciences industry in Queensland,” said Andrews.

LSQ CEO Mario Pennisi said Andrews’ ability to work with both the private and public sectors will help LSQ to continue its important role in the growing life sciences sector.

“I am keen to become re-engaged with LSQ, because I believe the organisation now has the capability and the global networks to capitalise on our investment in life sciences research by attracting more industry, investment and commercial acumen to Queensland,” said Andrews.
