Patients with tophaceous gout presented with urate deposition, tophus, vascularization in Achilles tendon

In the Achilles tendon of patients with tophaceous gout, researchers found urate deposition, tophus and vascularization, according to results of a recently published study.“Our findings demonstrate that, compared with age- and sex-matched control participants, people with tophaceous gout have both disease-specific and nonspecific features, including a higher prevalence of tophus, intratendinous power Doppler signal and intratendinous hyperechoic spots,” the researchers wrote. “Despite these findings, structural damage in the Achilles tendon was minimal in participants with gout.”
