FOSTER CITY, Calif., September 5, 2017 /3BL Media/ — Gilead has implemented emergency disaster response procedures as part of its Patient Support Programs, effective immediately. These procedures will enable continued access to Gilead’s medications for patients affected by Hurricane Harvey, who may otherwise be at risk for a lapse in therapy.
Gilead Patient Support Programs have been prepared to work with local healthcare practitioners to provide free medicine for individuals in affected areas who meet eligibility requirements. Patients or their providers can request assistance by contacting the applicable Gilead Patient Support Program, where their eligibility for assistance will be assessed. Once approved, patients will be sent up to a 30-day supply of their medication. Patients can find information on Gilead Patient Support Programs by visiting http://www.gilead.com/responsibility/us-patient-access.
“We’ve seen in the past that extreme, severe weather events can threaten health systems and interrupt access to care,” says Jim Meyers, Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations. “We’ve prepared our programs to work with healthcare providers and people at risk of a lapse in therapy to ensure continued access to Gilead medicines.”
In addition to enacting the disaster response procedures, Gilead Sciences has also made a contribution to the Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Hurricane Relief Fund. This fund will be administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, and will be used to help flood victims.
