TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans throughout the country, today announced the donation of $1 million to Volunteer Florida, the state's lead agency for volunteers and donations before, during and after disasters.
"WellCare's culture is built around caring for those who are most vulnerable, and there is no one more vulnerable than someone who has experienced a natural disaster the size and magnitude of Hurricane Irma," said Ken Burdick, WellCare's CEO. It is our duty, as a leading corporate citizen, to help the state, our members, associates and the local communities get back on their feet."
In partnership with the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Volunteer Florida coordinates with Florida Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and local and state government emergency management agencies to meet volunteer and donation needs. The organization provides staffing during activation of the State Emergency Operations Center, mobilizes and deploys resources to assist communities responding to and recovering from disasters, and operates the volunteer and donations hotline and the Florida Donations Portal.
