19-year child safety advocate, Ms. Creppy is ‘right woman at right time for Safe Kids’

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) March 06, 2018

The board of directors of Safe Kids Worldwide has chosen national child safety advocate Torine Creppy to serve as the organization’s president following a 13-month national search. Ms. Creppy has served as president of Safe Kids in an interim capacity since January 2017.

“The search team was committed to identifying the most qualified person for the job,” says Children’s National President and CEO Kurt Newman, M.D., who also serves as president of the Safe Kids Worldwide Board of Directors. “Torine’s selection from a set of top notch candidates speaks volumes about her character and her capacity to lead Safe Kids. As an integral part of the Children’s National family for nearly 19 years, I can’t think of a better person to help Safe Kids thrive in the coming years, and to partner with us to help kids grow up stronger.”

In her tenure at Safe Kids, Ms. Creppy has excelled in a variety of leadership roles. She directed the Safe Kids Buckle Up program – the world’s most comprehensive child passenger safety program, which has played a significant role in reducing the number of deaths and injuries to children in car crashes by more than 50 percent. For nine years, she served as chief program officer, leading the department that creates and implements education and awareness efforts for Safe Kids.

“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity to lead an organization of immensely talented and committed professionals who are so dedicated to keeping kids safe around the world,” says Ms. Creppy. “The mission to protect children from preventable injuries has been a passion of mine since I volunteered at Children’s National as a teenager. Our work is more important now than ever. Preventable injuries remain the number one cause of death to children in the U.S. and a serious problem around the world. I look forward to working in this new role to help Safe Kids continue to reach the children and families who need us most.”

As acting president, Ms. Creppy solidified relationships with long-time national partners, including founding sponsor Johnson & Johnson as well as General Motors, FedEx and Nationwide. In the fall of 2017, Ms. Creppy was successful in cementing a new relationship with Union Pacific to conduct awareness about rail safety.
“Torine’s experience, depth of thought about how to approach current challenges for Safe Kids, and strategic vision for the future were the key elements in her selection,” says David Strickland, chairman of the board for Safe Kids and formerly the Administrator of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. “She is the right woman at the right time for Safe Kids. Her leadership has made, and will continue to make, a real difference for children who are at risk of preventable injuries.”

Safe Kids works with an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the United States and with partners in more than 33 countries to reduce injuries and deaths from car crashes, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, when Safe Kids was co-founded by Marty Eichelberger, M.D., a trauma surgeon at Children's National, and his colleague, Herta Feely, the organization has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from preventable injury by 60 percent.

“Safe Kids Worldwide has attracted an exceptional leader who is passionate about children,” says Dr. Martin Eichelberger. “The selection of Torine Creppy as the president caps her 19-year journey as a member of the Safe Kids Worldwide team. She is a leader with vision, a commitment to the mission, the skill to motivate others and a kind heart. Torine puts the needs of children first. I am proud of her accomplishments and anticipate that Safe Kids Worldwide will save more lives with her leadership.”

Ms. Creppy holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and currently resides in Upper Marlboro, Md., with her family.

The board worked with Children’s National Health System and the firm Dickerson, Bakker & Associates to conduct the nationwide search for a new president.
