Alzheimer's disease redefined: New research framework defines Alzheimer's by brain changes, not symptoms

(Alzheimer's Association) New research framework, published in Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association. First author Clifford R. Jack, Jr., M.D., of Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN and colleagues propose shifting the definition of Alzheimer's disease in living people -- for use in research -- from the current one, based on cognitive changes and behavioral symptoms with biomarker confirmation, to a strictly biological construct. This represents a major evolution in how we think about Alzheimer's.
