On Sept 23, 2019, the 74th UN General Assembly adopted a historic political declaration: “universal health coverage: moving together to build a healthier world”.1 With increasing economic growth in low-income and middle-income countries, popular demand for affordable access to high-quality health services is unmistakable. Yet, universal health coverage must be built on legal foundations, the rule of law, and human rights. A partnership of WHO, UNAIDS, the UN Development Programme, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union is launching the Universal Health Coverage Legal Solutions Network to support governments, parliaments, and stakeholders to craft, implement, and enforce effective universal health coverage laws, regulations, and policies.NEXT ARTICLE
