Orthopedics is the science or practice of correcting deformities caused by disease or damage to the bones and joints of the skeleton. This specialized branch of surgery may involve operation, manipulation, traction or prostheses. (Oxford Medical Dictionary).

Aside from fixing broken bones, Orthopedics also cover the care of congenital skeletal abnormalities, such as Perthes Disease, wear and tear of bones, which as joint replacements in arthritis patients and other diseases affecting the bones, such as Pagets Disease.
