Pain is a feeling (sharp or dull) triggered in the nervous system which can be transient or constant.

Pain can be specific to one area of the body eg back, abdomen or chest or more general all over the body eg muscles ache from the flu.

Without pain diagnosing a problem would be difficult, you could seriously hurt yourself without knowing it, or you might not realize you have a medical problem that needs treatment.

Chronic pain occurs when pain persists over a long period of time - weeks, months or even years.  Sometimes chronic pain is due to an ongoing cause, such as cancer or arthritis.

Treatment for pain varies depending on the cause eg headache, injury, flu, cancer etc.
