Long-term oxygen therapy improves survival in patients with severe hypoxia. However, some patients despite this oxygen, experience episodes of low oxygen levels (intermittent hypoxia) espe...

Effect of High Levels of Oxygen and Smoking on the Lungs in Human Volunteers

Patients with lung disease experiencing difficulty breathing can be treated with oxygen therapy. This involves the delivery of "extra" oxygen by a face-mask or through small tubes placed ...

Portable Oxygen Concentrator Improvements to Physical Activity, Oxygen Usage, and Quality of Life in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients Using Long-term Oxygen Therapy (POC-STEP)

To evaluate changes in activity based on the use of portable oxygen concentrators combined with standard of care (SOC) long- term oxygen therapy versus SOC long-term oxygen therapy alone a...

Evaluation of Oxygen Delivery Through Nasal Cannula in Volunteers

This study will evaluate patient comfort and oxygen delivery efficiency when providing supplemental oxygen through a nasal cannula to volunteers using an instrumented oxygen delivery syste...

Effects of Supplemental Oxygen Delivered by a Portable Oxygen Concentrator Compared to a Liquid Oxygen Device in COPD

Use of Oxygen at the End of Life: Attitudes, Beliefs, and Practices in Wisconsin.

Oxygen therapy for the management of breathlessness remains controversial and little information is available regarding the practice of using oxygen at end of life. Oxygen use in end-of-life care is i...

Is Subsurface Oxygen Necessary for the Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 on Copper?

It has recently been proposed that subsurface oxygen is crucial for the adsorption and subsequent electroreduction of CO2 on copper. Using density functional theory, we have studied the stability and ...

Oxygen Sensing Based on the Yellowing of Newspaper.

Newspaper is known to turn yellow over time. We show here that this yellowing process is sensitive to oxygen when ex-posed to UV light, leading to oxygen sensing. Oxygen sensing is critical to many ap...

Determining the venous oxygen reservoir: A novel, hypothetical approach to titration of supplemental oxygen in preterm newborns.

While normal oxygen saturation is commonly thought to be a marker of normal oxygenation, cutaneous saturation does not account for the sufficiency of oxygen within each cell or that of the system over...
