Summary of "Effects of bisphenol A on lipid metabolism in rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus."

As one of the most abundant endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), bisphenol A (BPA) exists ubiquitously in aquatic environment. Many studies on fish have focused on the reproductive toxicity effects of BPA. However, little has involved the effects of BPA on lipid metabolism. To evaluate the effects of BPA on lipid metabolism, we determine the hepato-somatic index, triglyceride contents in the liver and serum, the activities of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), fatty acid synthase (FASN), carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT1), and glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) enzymes and the mRNA expression of acaca, acacb, fasn, gpat1 and cpt1α in Gobiocypris rarus after exposure to BPA for 28 days. BPA induced increasing tendency of triglyceride contents in male fish, possibly due to up-regulated lipid synthesis. Although in this process, fatty acid β-oxidation was up-regulated, it might be compensated by increasing lipogenesis. Our result also revealed that the GPAT enzyme might play a key role in lipid metabolism disturbance by BPA in females. Besides, the effect of BPA on fatty acid β-oxidation pathway might be gender-dependent in G. rarus. Further studies are needed to investigate BPA's effects on signaling pathway of lipid metabolism.

Characterisation of scavenger receptor class B type 1 in rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus).

Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SRB1) is a transmembrane protein belonging to the scavenger receptors (SRs) family and it plays an important role in viral entry. Not much is known on SRB1 in teleos...

Environmentally relevant concentrations of carbamazepine induce liver histopathological changes and a gender-specific response in hepatic proteome of Chinese rare minnows (Gobiocypris rarus).

To assess hepatotoxicity and to determine the underlying mechanisms of carbamazepine (CBZ) toxicity in fish, histopathology and the liver proteome were examined after Chinese rare minnow (Gobiocypris ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Conditions characterized by abnormal lipid deposition due to disturbance in lipid metabolism, such as hereditary diseases involving lysosomal enzymes required for lipid breakdown. They are classified either by the enzyme defect or by the type of lipid involved.

Protein components on the surface of LIPOPROTEINS. They form a layer surrounding the hydrophobic lipid core. There are several classes of apolipoproteins with each playing a different role in lipid transport and LIPID METABOLISM. These proteins are synthesized mainly in the LIVER and the INTESTINES.

The reaction product of bisphenol A and glycidyl methacrylate that undergoes polymerization when exposed to ultraviolet light or mixed with a catalyst. It is used as a bond implant material and as the resin component of dental sealants and composite restorative materials.

A family of vertebrate and insect lipid droplet associated proteins. They consist of a conserved N-terminal PAT domain (an alpha-helical region of about 110 amino acids), an 11-mer repeat region, and lipid-binding hydrophobic regions or 4-helix bundles near their C-termini. Perilipins transiently or constitutively localize to LIPID DROPLETS in ADIPOCYTES and FOAM CELLS, especially in regions adjacent to the PLASMA MEMBRANE and ENDOPLASMIC RECTICULUM. They are critical for lipid droplet synthesis and homeostasis as well as the regulation of lipid metabolism. Genetic variations in perilipins are associated with ATHEROSCLEROSIS; OBESITY; and DIABETES MELLITUS.

Dynamic cytoplasmic organelles found in almost all cells. They consist of a central core of LIPIDS surrounded by a phospholipid monolayer studded with surface proteins, and are involved in LIPID METABOLISM and storage.
