Summary of "Testicular growth and development in puberty."

To describe pubertal testicular growth in humans, changes in testicular cell populations that result in testicular growth, and the role of testosterone and gonadotrophins follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in testicular growth. When human data were not available, studies in nonhuman primates and/or rodents were used as surrogates.

Reproductive parameters of donkey jacks undergoing puberty.

In male donkeys, puberty and the related events have been poorly characterized. The aim of this study was to evaluate the age at which male donkeys reach puberty, and characterize age associated chang...

Kisspeptin permits the sexual development of female rats with normal and precocious puberty but is not a trigger for it.

We inferred how KISS-1/GPR54 system to involved in precocious puberty by observing hormones level during the process of precocious puberty in model and normal rats during sexual development and the es...

Growth velocity and biological variables during puberty in achondroplasia.

Achondroplasia is the most common form of inherited disproportionate short stature. Cross-sectional design studies of height show that, during childhood, height standard deviation scores (SDS) decline...

Maternally expressed miR-379/miR-544 cluster is dispensable for testicular development and spermatogenesis in mice.

Increasing lines of evidence suggest that miRNAs are closely related to spermatogenesis and male infertility which has aroused widespread concerns. The miR-379/miR-544 locus is the largest known placen...

Is Testicular Macrocalcification a Risk for Malignancy?: Tumor Development on Ultrasonographic Follow-up of Preexisting Intratesticular Macrocalcification.

Testicular macrocalcification is an uncommon finding when imaging the scrotum with ultrasonography (US). It is not normally a recognized risk factor for development of testicular malignancy, and patie...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A period in the human life in which the development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal system takes place and reaches full maturity. The onset of synchronized endocrine events in puberty lead to the capacity for reproduction (FERTILITY), development of secondary SEX CHARACTERISTICS, and other changes seen in ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT.

The lack of development of SEXUAL MATURATION in boys and girls at a chronological age that is 2.5 standard deviations above the mean age at onset of PUBERTY in a population. Delayed puberty can be classified by defects in the hypothalamic LHRH pulse generator, the PITUITARY GLAND, or the GONADS. These patients will undergo spontaneous but delayed puberty whereas patients with SEXUAL INFANTILISM will not.

A stage of development at which the ADRENAL GLANDS undergo maturation leading to the capability of producing increasing amounts of adrenal androgens, DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE and ANDROSTENEDIONE. Adrenarche usually begins at about 7 or 8 years of age before the signs of PUBERTY and continues throughout puberty.

The growth and development of bones from fetus to adult. It includes two principal mechanisms of bone growth: growth in length of long bones at the epiphyseal cartilages and growth in thickness by depositing new bone (OSTEOGENESIS) with the actions of OSTEOBLASTS and OSTEOCLASTS.

Development of SEXUAL MATURATION in boys and girls at a chronological age that is 2.5 standard deviations below the mean age at onset of PUBERTY in the population. This early maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis results in sexual precocity, elevated serum levels of GONADOTROPINS and GONADAL STEROID HORMONES such as ESTRADIOL and TESTOSTERONE.
